fire axe marking

I got a old fire axe, and I can't find anything on this mark. It was lightly struck on the right side, but it's definitely a C, with a wedge through the top. Some misguided fool once tried to hack saw the pick, but thankfully they only went an 1/8" in. I'm not sure how far I'll take the polish, or if I'm painting it or not, but this is the best straight handle I could get. Can anyone recommend a solid online handle seller?

Previous info is sound and the stamp definitely looks to be a '6'. I dunno if very many folks are into collecting these but if you put a new handle on it and locate it somewhere handy in case of emergency it won't let you down if that day ever comes.

As far as handle sources, their aren't many online. A quick search of the site will reveal a few. I have personally picked up 4 from House Handle (un-lacquered) and they have been fine, no issues so far, 6 months in.
