For all of you who ordered a fire kit, which type firesteel do you want, misch metal or ferro rod? Please let me know asap, as I will be needing to order soon!

A baffled Rooikat responds..... what's the difference?

Had no idea that there were different kinds of rods.

Ferro rod throws sparks, misch metal throws molten globs of steel that burn longer, but some say it`s harder to use. BTW - Congrats on your 1000th post!

I would ask which one lasts the longest, but at my age that would be a pretty optimistic question.

Thank you, sir!

Then I'd like a ferro rod with my kit.

Misch is fine since most other people want it. It will make me practice a bit more.
