I'm seriously considering getting a automatic knife for my collection. It won't be a EDC, mostly a fidget toy. I've narrowed my choices to a spyderco autonomy, benchmade casbah, or buck 110/112 auto. Not really interested in an OTF model at this time. Am I missing anything? Would like to keep it around $250 or so. The only reason I've considered these 3 companies is that I've had really excellent knives from all 3, but willing to try another maker based on feedback from users. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Not allways available but for my first auto I would go for a Microtech.
Either a Newport or a LUDT

Pro-tech for side opening Autos. For fidget factor, and otf scratches the itch better IMO.

I've only got one Pro-Tech so far but I plan on many more. Tr-4 is big which I love, they make the smaller Tr-5 though. The snap on a pro-tech is phenomenal.

I bought a Kershaw Launch 11 a few months ago. And I absolutely love it. Amazing action, perfect size and weight, and it is gorgeous. Love the reverse Tanto. Check out the Launch series. 11 cost me $95

I’m saving up for a Mediator now.

I want a OTF so bad. But I can’t justify buying one when I can get 3 other knives for the same price. Probably need to play with one. Have you held a Mediator? It’s what I’m looking at getting atm

A few years ago we had a guy on here who was talking up Mikov autos. Has anybody tried one?

I have not. I love the looks and materials of it though. It's a bit on the small size for me. Benchmade does good with autos too but not as good as pro-tech.

I have 2 of the Mikov's and really like them. I did have one I moved along because the switch was not bent up quite enough to get my thumb under reliably. Nice snappy action on them, and not too expensive.

For the OP, I have the Spyderco Autonomy (the new one) and it is a favorite knife for sure.
I have also owned the Casbah and the Buck 110 auto and I ended up trading them both. Neither one felt very "switchblade-y" if that makes sense. The Buck was especially weird, having to unlock it via the backlock and it, naturally, is pretty heavy. I apologize for that sentence, hah.

I just got a Microtech Socom Elite Auto on Monday that is pretty awesome and certainly worth a look. Have fun!

The Buck 110/112's are nice (own both) and the others you listed are good brands. I own Piranha, Microtech, Protech, Kershaw, Buck, Boker and a few others. Personally that is also the order I would rate them with the first three being pretty equal.
The main thing to do is buy from a quality dealer in person or online. Make sure you check and follow the laws in your neck of the woods.

Then, enjoy! :)
