A collector´s life can be hard sometimes...
As the Outrider has just arrived, the next package from Ibach is on its way, so...
By the way, my wife´s nerves are made from steel, just like the new arrival´s blade :)

The Spartan PS, the Spartan´s PS, to be precise, as they come in black and white.
By the way, it way way more difficult to capture these beautys in pictures.

PS?

Right, the plain jane Spartan should be widely known by now, its a steadfast in the Victorinox line up, for years a bestseller.

But PS?
What schould that be?

PS stands for „polyspectral“, which is a special surface treatment, which I don´t even try to understand :) It´s also called Inox-Spectral.

Never seen something like this before...
I´m no chemist, but as far as I understand it, its a chromeoxid layer on the steel surface.

The colour depends on the thickness and lighting.

And in the case of the Spartan PS its, you guys guessed it, black.
And what a wonderfull one that is!

A real attention getter is the fact, that not only the blade, but alle the hardware is treated, so you have a „all blacked out“ tool. And it looks amazing!

The tool selection on the Spartans should be mentioned briefliy:
large blade, penblade, caplifter, small screwdriver, large screwdriver, bottle opener, awl, corkscrew, tweezers, toothpick.

So, everything is black?
Exactly!!

Well, nearly.

Toothpick and tweezers are standard, wouldn´t it be cool to have them in black too?

If that´s too „goth“ for your liking, there´s also a version with white scales!
(got both, couldn´t resist...)

The small clothepin hole is present as well.

With polyspectral treatment and „standard“.
And thats the tricky part, catching this with the camera wasn´t as easy as I thought it would be...

Depending on the lighting, the camera „sees“ it quite different from the human eye. Both blades are treated, one just slightly canted:

Amazing...

Being „Black&White“, what comes to mind?

I´m realy stunned by the two new Spartans and hope to see more models come with this treatment in the future!

If you have any questions, shoot!

Thanks for the beautiful photography! You have scooped sakwiki.com and the entire internet on the Spartan PS, except for two sites which recycled Victorinox's advertising copy and photos.

Now that you've stunned us with your SAK reporting, you should tell us about your chess set. Chess sets are almost as versatile as SAKs. You could set yours up with the Fried Liver Attack and post it in Food & Drink.

Great shots as always! I do like the look of that coating, even if I mostly have to imagine it. That with a dark gray Alox would look stunning I think. looks like Vic is really trying to get into that mid-high EDC game as by far more folks can legally carry a SAK and are willing to spend on a nice one, where a Sebenza or Rockstead wouldn't fly with the rest of the office crowd, or the local constabulary.

Those are great, thanks for sharing. I may have to pick up a white one when they come out.

Great photos and write-up. -Except now I want new Spartans!

I had the Porsche SAK at one time before my friend lost it. The blades had a black coating on them that had a certain sheen to it. Almost looked like black obsidian.

Is that what the coating on this one is like?

Either way, beautiful. I love the white one.

Great pictures and that is a very attractive design. I don't collect so much as use but of course have multiples. I could see me adding an alox with treatment.

That might be the sexiest SAK I've ever seen. I agree with everyone else, great pictures! I've never heard of this particular model. Now I feel the need to own one, haha.

While I love my big red Super Tinkerer, that looks much more handy to carry around.

You certainly outdid yourself on the photos. Believe I missed this thread back in May. Anyway, I have a red Spartan. It was made for me at the Manufacturers Day at the big east Tennessee knife store a couple years ago. I tend to choose the ones without the cork screw. But the extra blade would be useful from time to time.

Finally, a tacticool SAK for the mall ninjas and keyboard commandos. The blades should be non-reflective, though, for when you're using them to eliminate sentries or doing other black ops covert stuff.

The planets must be aligned. :D
