Caught these on the blue moon with crankbaits. I fished most of the night . I had one other big one get off. Used a shallow diving Rapala Crankin Rap red crawfish .
The pink salmon run is on here in BC and we can now catch them from shore in the ocean near their natal streams. It isn't often we get an opportunity for good ocean fishing from shore here, I always look forward to pink season! If a school is close enough to shore the fishing can be really hot; I've had days where I'd be in to fish every other cast, though not yet this year. Here are a couple shots from two recent outings. I'm planning to get out a couple more times this week if possible
Nice Bluegill!! It was my birthday yesterday so I hit the lake with my son and my Mom...She is 92 so I only fished one spot so she could sit and watch us...Got lots of Bluegills and Yellow Perch and a small bass....Fun stuff!
How did I miss the hunting/fishing section all this time? My first sailfish week before last. We released three white Marlin and four sailfish in a day. Took a wahoo, dorado, and yellow fin tuna for eating too.
Saturday morning off Waukegan, IL. Three miles out at 100ft depth.
The rainbow/steelhead was steaked for the grill. My lake trout was filleted and dropped off at hagens fish market in Chicago to get smoked (along with mostly everyone else's catch). Heads went with a fishing partner who wanted to make soup. Zero waste. Maybe the guts though =(
Before this, my biggest fish was probably a 4lb bass. Had a blast.
Today's outing with my dad and my son for bluegill. I decided to use my vintage custom St. Croix rod with Bronson Buddy 800 reel, Thill float and a crawler always does the trick. Felt the B&W worked better with the image...
I do too! I just picked up another vintage St. Croix rod at the flea market today, it's pretty rough but the handle and blank are good, decal is about 80% there too. Now to find another vintage reel for it after I resto-mod this rod.
This weekend I was fishing on the beach front. I was using a popping cork with live shrimp. I got a quick hit, my line broke (my drag was set too tight), and the orange float went under. The float came up to the surface, went slowly back under, and then disappeared.
It reminded me of that scene at the end of Jaws when one barrel wasn't enough.
I caught this blacktip right after that. Catch and release.
I spend most of my time in ShopTalk, never noticed this thread. Lots of cool pics and stud fish from all around the country. Not too many salty pics, so I figure Id put up a few of this years highlights. Hope to have more to add this fall...particularly keeping my fingers crossed for PB speckled trout.
