what do you guys think of this knife as a camp knife, durability ease of sharpening? i like big blades and was going to get the large fallkniven thor knife but the ovb seems to fit me better. any suggestions thank you

Have you ever handled one? It's a mid-size knife, very well-balanced, feels lighter in my hand than it looks. Should be a great working knife, and it is high-carbon steel, so no trouble sharpening it up. Just make sure you maintain it properly, keep it clean and oiled from time to time.

Beautiful knife. More a classic look than the Fallknivens, which are more high-tech.

I have the big 11" blade fiddleback model and love it. Very light, chops very well, and it sure looooooves to cut.

I think the only thing that would disqualify it as a camp knife IMO is the dual guard. I usually avoid them because I like to have the ability to choke up on the knife and use my thumb on the spine for added leverage. IMO, dual guards are only necessary in a fighting knife.

Obviously this is personal preference and if dual guards do not bother you I would go for it.

At the hammer-ins and blade shows I've attended where Jerry Fisk was there....he's almost always had an OVB bowie tucked in his belt. He told me he really likes how it turned out. Pretty nice camp knife and not too heavy/beefy.

I've thought about getting one....but since I can make my own..........still, it's pretty good looking to me.

Just wanted to give ya a perspective from the other end of the stick. Probably won't make any real sense except to those who have tried to put together a knife themselves.

I prefer something a bit smaller for a camp knife, but I have used my Fisk Soutwest (11") a little for that sort of thing. It does well at clearing brush, cooking, and general utility. And it is amazing how light that big blade feels in the hand! The balance is a thing of genius. It really cuts too.

Overall this is an impressive knife that keeps getting better the more you use it. Its best features are subtle.

Been looking for a fixed blade as the only one I have is a BM 220 and while nice it is SMALL. I had narrowed down my choices to a CQB1 or 3, Al Mar SERE Operator, and a Blackjack Trailguide III when I went to the for sale forum and found as the top post a Camillus OVB Fisk nib with the ironwood handle...didn't take but a minute to decide THAT was the knife! I've had the 11" model and it was a little big but balanced as a much smaller knife! I think the 7.5" blade will be just right for me.

I really do like those bowie blades. Fixed and folding!
