Hello, I am no knife expert, I bought my first knife a few months back, it is just a normal spring assisted knife. Can't tell you much more about it. It was working fine and the spring was normal, the knife was opening all the way to the "click" at the end. All of a sudden, when I fling the flipper or whatever it is called, it does not open all the way. I have no idea what to do. Please help me.

What is the model of the knife? If you don't know, post a picture of the knife. However, it just sounds like the spring or torsion bar used in the assisted opening has broken, which happens over time and are normally easy to replace. If you want more detailed answer on how to answer your problem, we will need more details.

Take it apart, probably has torx screws. Likely a broken spring. Also, probably easier to just buy a new knife, a decent one this time. You may need to spend more than $10 at the flea market. There are many great knives in the $25-30 range that could be suggested.

If I were to take it apart, what would I gain from it, when I do take it apart, would I need to change the spring?

If it’s a broken spring, your options are basically:
- send it to the manufacturer if it has a warranty service
- replace the knife
- accept the new state of your knife

Replace it with a Kershaw Injection. People here are going nuts for it at under $15.

Contact the knife maker and ask for warranty support. Send in knife and they will fix it.

Else contact knife maker and ask for a torsion bar because yours broke. Ask for two cause it may break again. Then take apart the knife and put the new torsion bar back in. Put a bit of food safe grease in there so it doesn't rattle around and make noise.

Think this shows the basics. Avoid the Nano lube though.

Agree with the others, make of the knife is critical in order to assist you with your assisted knife ;)

One possibility is if the blade has a hidden stop pin, meaning the tang of the knife has a cutout semi-circle that the stop pin rides in, pocket lint/gunk can build up and create a wall of said gunk which will prevent the knife from opening all the way, one reason I dislike that style and prefer to see the stop pin and be able to clean it if needed. If that is the case with your knife, it usually will require it to be taken apart to remove that build up of material.
Rrinsing in hot water may dislodge it, but that probably won't get it all or be a long term fix.

If it is expensive knife it should have still warranty after half year, return it or (if it is not possible ) open the knife and check whats problem , eventually search some repair videos on YouTube. When i wanna learn to do soemthing , YouTube almost Always helps me.

If it's from a reputable manufacturer, you should be able to get a replacement spring pretty easily. Kershaw sent me one pretty quick.
