Does Minnesota have any laws on fixed blades. I have alwaysed loved fixed blades and have always wanted to carry one, but have had trouble with finding both stat and local laws.

I asked a LEO at the cop shop about this when I was buying a 9.5" bladed Knife for EDC, and he didnt know of any restrictions, just thought it would be a bad idea to carry it at the bar or schools, basically.

Concealed, open, no worries. . .As far as I know. . . But no Autos. :(

I am a knife maker in MN and I have done some research on this subject. Each city has its own laws about carrying knives. I check online and with the police departments in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Blaine, all of the local laws stated that any folding knife with a blade over 4 inches was illegal to carry and any fixed blade knife regardless of length was illegal to carry. However, I also spoke with an officer at each of the city police departments via email and when I asked "what is legal to carry" they all replied, "I don't know, that's a good question let me look it up." None of them were able to find anything concrete for me but they all gave me this advice, as long as you don't go overboard with the blade (keep it around 4 inches) and you're not doing anything stupid with it you should be OK. For two years now I have been carrying a 4 1/4 inch fixed blade knife just about every where I go, banks, movie theaters, restaurants, I've even spoken with a few cops and no one says anything other than "Hey that's a nice looking knife can I see it?" My brother also carrys a 6 inch K-bar with him and has done so for several years without an issue. The bottom line is use good judgment.

I don't know about knife laws in Minnesota but I guess if you are going
to carry one have your lawyers phone number tatooed on your arm. Many
prosecuters are lazy and if your lawyer can get an expert to testify that your
knife for example isn't a switchblade or so and so you get the idea.

Of course if all else fails say you were abused as a child. Minnesota is pretty
liberal it seems the more hard core a criminal you are the less time you'll
do just kidding.

Judge : Oh you slashed that guys arm because you were defending yourself you get 5 years.

No your honor I was trying to mug him.

Judge : Okay 1 year probation.
