What do you prefer for EDC a fixed blade or a folding knife and why. I prefer a folder mainly because they are smaller and take up less space.

Fixed. I'm not a fan of carrying in my pocket at all. That's for other things like keys and phone. Small fixed horizontal on my belt is my favorite. Next is a folder clipped to my back right waste band. That is very comfortable for me in all situations, even sitting and driving. It doesn't weight down my pockets either.

It kinda depends on where I'm going. At work, I tend to carry both. My main work knives are typically a 1.5 inch wharnecliff necker that I use as a boxcutter (gotta love O1. Such a great steel for that kind of use :D) and a 3-4 inch drop point.

But aside from courthouses and airports, when I'm out and about I ditch the fixed blades and carry a Tenacious that never leaves my pocket. I built it using two separate knives, basically swapping blue G10 scales onto a black blade & hardware version, so it's all black & blue. It's quite the sexy knife, and I'm proud of it :D

Why choose one or the other. I carry both. I carry a folder with a fine edge for small jobs and detailed cutting, and a heavy duty fixed-blade for tasks that require a stout blade. Other benefits of the fixed-blade are that if I have a dirty cutting job to do the fb is a lot easier to clean. The fb can also be used as a prybar in an emergency if necessary. Best of both worlds.

If im spending more than 1/3 of my day outdoors, I grab a fixed blade. It's also nice to carry a beautiful custom on occasion. Fixed blades are obviously stronger, comfortable, easy to clean, but usually heavier and less comfortable to carry. If I could find the right fb, I would edc it every time.

Clipped folders are easier to carry than just about anything else, but I like the simplicity of a fixed blade, so that's what I use. I'd carry a folder if I ever found one with a design that I really liked, but I haven't so far. Maybe if that slipjoint Native ever comes out...

In my environment and for the purposes I use it, a folder is the way to go.
It's so convenient to carry.
There are occasions, when I add a fixed blade.

PS: That said, I ussually carry more than one knife.

In my living and work environment, a folder is the way to go and it is perfectly fine for my daily cutting tasks. When I go hiking and camping then I add a fixed blade.

For where I live folding is my only option, but if I was able to carry a fixed I would carry my dpx heat and for my folding I carry a cold steel ak-47 2nd gen

It depends on my mood. I have a few of each and I grab whatever tickles my fancy at a given moment. Might be a small fb on the belt with a Sodbuster in the pocket or a big folder front right or any combination of 2 of them.
