FK2

Thanks man, I’m pretty sure it’s the regular version but to be honest it feels a bit thinner behind the edge then my previous one. Of course, I could just be imagining that.

I've figured out a layman's way of telling the differences to the naked eye:

On the regular ones, there are several millimeters distance between the Carothers signature and the line where to primary grind starts. On the harder/Thinner, the maker's signature will be touching the primary grind line which to me it says that the H/T ones have slightly taller grinds.

Mat Casinostocks Casinostocks got me looking at my FKs this AM. I think you may be on to something. Looking at my harder thinner blade and it appears to the naked eye the middle of the Carothers sig is a hair closer to to grind line. Also, more telling when rubbing the edge where the primary grind starts the HT feels like a slightly sharper radius than the standard FK. Poku Poku beautiful knife either way.

For reference purposes, the top one is is Harder/Thinner iteration whereas the bottom one is the regular hardness/thickness:

The reason as to why the bottom one may look a bit different to your regular FK2s is because that one is actually a UFK meaning that it was done with the utility grade finish before Nathan smoothed out the finish a bit more for a mere $10 per knife.

Just wanted to say you guys knocked this handle out of the park. Looks like the original FK goes in the drawer for a while or to the sale block!

Thank you. We put a lot of effort in that handle for real users like you. It's not just about how it feels in the hand while gripping it, it's about how it works while under a load in extended use. I was looking forward to your impression of it.

From top to bottom:

- Harder & thinner with satin finish and chamfered spine

- Standard HT and thicker with acid wash finish and swedge

- Harder & thinner with 90 degrees sharpened spine and standard tumbled finish.

We have already established that the harder & thinner ones have a slightly taller ground line where the line almost touches the Carothers mark. Also I have come to find out that there is no such an option as swedge with 90* spine which per Nathan are mutually exclusive, i.e, you can not order them with both options on the same FK2 from Nathan's shop.

As Nathan had clearly warned, the 90* spine is very sharp along the top of the knife which can actually cut you if you are not paying attention. I understand as to why he does not like to offer them like this which I had to see and feel for myself to satisfy my own curiosity (I totally concur with Nathan).

Thank you Nathan as always and thank you very much @Jo the Machinist for helping me out with the requested hardware :)

ETA: you can clearly see the rawer finish on top of the spine of the 90* one (bottom one) vs even the hand ground "satin" finish one (the top one).

Dang it!
Now I want to try out one of those H&T with a sharp spine.
I don’t need 3 FK2’s though!
