Just wondering if anyone here uses a flap sander to help finish their blades, something i have heard works well. Just wondering.

No. Not a clean finish and can get away from you really fast. You have a belt grinder, use it.

I have a couple of small flap wheels 3/4 and 1 inch that I use in my drill press to clean up the choil area before hand sanding, but for finish no

Ben, when I was at Carter Cutlery last week, they use 2 flap sanders to finish most of their blades.
Did you ever get one for yourself?

I use 4.5 inch flap wheels on my angle grinder for really rough handle shaping, but that's it.

A guy that I know goes from 400 grit belts back by graphite canvas liner on the flat platen to a Scotchbrite flap wheel and then to a stitched buff with white compound with very good effect.

Flaps have a place in my shop. I make far more stuff beside knives,
But some knives I want a flowing smoothed over styling, I used a flapwheel on portions for that.
Generally I like crisp delineations. Fixed & rigid grinding needed there...

What grits are you using for the flaps?
Thanks

Can you post a pic or link showing the finish?
