Flashlight/Pen combo

So this isn't precisely a multi-tool question, but I thought you guys would be the best to ask.

I want to get a flashlight/pen combination, but I need some recommendations. I'd like to be able to carry around just a leatherman (I like having both pliers and scissors), a good knife, and then a flashlight with a pen would sum it up pretty nicely.

I have a pen with a flashlight and laser pointer that's a neat package, but I can't keep it in my pocket without one of the buttons inevitably getting pushed and the batteries dying. So ideally I'd like something that is well-put together.

Thanks!

Hi,

Leatherman is offering a combination package with the Core and a Monarch 300 LED light and a combo holster. You might want to look into this. Product number is 831086.

Best - Joe

Such a lot of flashlights out there it's tricky to narrow it down. It all depends on what you want from it; long run times, output, battery size, multi-light levels etc. I'm certainly no expert (really not in fact) but I settled on a Fenix L0D Q4 for myself. That has recently been superseded by the Fenix LD01. Great little flashlight that will sit on your keyring or clip to your pocket without getting in the way. The Fenix E01 is more basic but I hear nice things about it.

As far as pens go I just have a Zebra F-301 Ultra. A basic stainless pen that writes well and is cheap so as not to make me cry when I inevitably loose it.

Let us know what you get.

I find that a Leatherman Serac S2 keeps my pens company pretty well ! An S2 and a Lamy Safari rollerball might do the trick . The Safari is very functional , a Lamy Pico might work well for you , I'm also a big fan of the Lamy Scribble , matches well with the S2 and has two sizes of mechanical pencil in the same config .

Not really sure if you are looking for both features in one device or recommendations for each, so here goes...

I like them separate. I'm a big believer in most things being good as stand alone items and not combo.

I carry a Surefire Pen 2 and a Fenix L1D light at all times.

If you really want all in one package (since this is blade forums) try one of the Lite packages from Victorinox. I recommend the Huntsman lite - it's got a pen in the handle, a light and all the features of the Huntsman (one of my personal favorites). Granted, the pen is really for emergency use only, since it would be difficult to write for extended periods of time due to its size.

Very easy , however I think they are not readily available In stores. I think you have to order from web.

I've found that in order to have really functional tools, that it's better to go with stand alone pieces. Since pants pocket space is at a premium, I've opted for very small, but what I still consider functional pens and flashlights. I've settled on the Fisher Bullet (space) Pen (very compact when closed, but opens to a fullsize pen), and the Fenix P1D Premium LED. I've carried the Fisher for a couple of years now without issue. It writes very nicely, and I always have a pen handy. The Fenix is new to me, but so far I really like it. It's a tiny light, but still brighter than my Surefires (and much larger Mag lights). Even the Freedom Photon pictured below is very bright for it's size. The Explorer Plus pictured has been switched to a Champion Plus which has everything a Leatherman contains, except for the pliers. IMO the Victorinox, Fenix, and Fisher are quite the useful EDC trio that fits well in a pocket.

Sorry about the gun, but this picture is the only one I have showing the pen and light together.

What combo you depends on how you want to carry it, but an Arc AAA or a Photon are excellent lights as well as the Fenix.
Fisher has the Bullet, Trekker, and Stowaway pens - any one of which would be excellent.
If you're going really small, the Victorinox Midnight Manager or Midnite Minichamp both have (new) white LEDs and a pen.
