Flat packs of duct tape

I've had a couple of people ask about the flat packs of duct tape I mentioned in the "typical loadout" thread a while ago, and where they can get it, so I thought I'd post the info up here for anyone who's interested..

The stuff I got was from the local Fred Meyer, several yards of generic gray duct tape wrapped around a flat plastic spool. Nice, because it travels flat and you can keep a pack in your back pocket for emergency repairs, like when you accidentally put your hand through the passenger side window of your car (something I don't intend to ever repeat)...

I also found a place that sells this stuff on-line (www.duckproducts.com), I haven't tried their stuff out but apparently you can buy it in gray, black, camo, or assorted neon colors (who knew?) if that's your thing.

Here's the link:

I tried locating those flat packs of duct tape at the local Home Depot, but they didn't carry them.

I made decided to make them myself. Easiest thing in the world to do. Just start folding over 2" lengths of your duct tape roll until you get you desired length you want on, cut, and fold over a small amount of the end to make a pull-tab (so you don't have to fuss trying to unroll it).

I can make a 10' roll of "flat pack" duct tape it about two minutes. Cost: pennies.

I like Squid's idea, the ready-made flat packs are ridiculously pricey, I will have to try that as soon as I figure out how to fold straight..

I also noticed that I linked to the manufacturer and not the place that sells the stuff on-line! Sorry if I sent anyone to the wrong spot...

I usually just take one of the smaller rolls of tape (usually coloured so it can be used for hi-vis marking in the woods) and squoosh it.

Yeah the sqooshing works for me!

I carry some "gaffer-tape" (which maybe an English term) which will stick to anything even when wet etc, and is tough as anything.

I use the stuff when on fieldtrips loads(usually though, to fix rips and holes in (someone else's cheap) kit or waterproofs.

I would like to say that buying the higher quality kit has always paid for itself because I stay warm and dry (as does my kit) while the others don't. That's why my jacket cost £250 and my fleece was £150. Seriously; I never want to have to rely on duct-tape out in the field!

As I can't fold tape straight either, I usually get a black roll about 2" wide, 5" in diameter and squash it in the vice to about 3". It's simple, quick and cheap.

'nuff said.

I bought a few on closeout at Walmart. Only .75 cents each. They usually run $1.50. I need to go get a few more, but I like the squashing idea also.
