I once saw a knife that had no point. Instead it was flat and blunt on the end kind of like an oversized screwdriver. One edge was sharpened (plain). It was designed to be useful for prying and such.

Does anyone make a blade like this?

Josh,

The flat point knives are usually diving knives. Kit Carson makes such knives, look for U2 dive knives at his website. Buck also have the Intrepids from their collaboration with Kit.

I've got a "bali-tool." A China cheapie w/ flat tip (slotted screwdriver) & bottle opener in the "blade." No sharp bits at all.

Yeah, well, people ... They're in tiny pieces in my bag ...

My Gerber River Shorty has a screwdriver tip and a serrated cutting edge on a very sturdy, highly polished, stainless steel blade. A serious pry bar.

I've also seen that design in some rescue knives. There is one designed under the Smith & Wesson name (made by United, I think). I've seen it listed as the Rescue and the 1st Response. It's a folder with a serrated blade (for seatbelts), a flat tip (for prying and to protect patients) and a spring-powered punch in the handle (for breaking auto glass). Retails for around $40. An interesting side note -- I've heard the punch on this knife can sometimes come shooting out of the handle. One knife dealer I talked to told me he was demonstrating it to a customer and the punch shot out hard enough to break the glass in his display case a few feet away.

kirch, you're right about the rescue knives. Blackie Collins has one that's a lot sleeker than the 1st Response, and the carbide striker is just fixed at the butt, not sprinnnggggg !!! -loaded. I think it comes in a choice of a pointed or a blunt tip.

Some industrial knives have flat tips, as do Russell 'produce' knives, and Eriksson has a knife which has a chisel on the end.
