Is there such a thing as well made flip flops? I was one of the unaware fat guys wearing mandals, perpetuating the stereotype. Well, I want a well made pair of flip flops. Something that will be able to support me. Thanks.

I run on the verge of 250lb, and I've put my North Face "base camp" flops through 4+ years of abuse and they are still going strong. I will buy more of the same once (if) they give up the ghost.

+1 for Chaco. They make the best freaking sandals on the planet. They even have a resoling service which tells you something about how long they last. They make flip-flops too and I'm sure they're every bit as good as their sandals.

Nike makes good flip flops. I don't think it matters what your mid-section looks like.

He isn't talking about what it looks like....... he is talking about the fact that a large man will crush the foam rubber used in most flip-flops. Some Nike sandals can handle the abuse, but, the majority I have owned were destroyed after a summer worth of daily wear.

Oh, ok gotcha. My Nikes have held up very well, but I have a thin to medium build. I got the same pair for my dad and he wears them quite frequently. He has a bit of a gut. :o

I had several pairs of the Nike mandals, very comfortable, but, they're mandals. Thanks for the suggestions.

+3 for chacos. I've worn out a bunch of tevas and other brands and my chacos are going strong. They are made much better than anything else I've tried. I just got a good deal over at rei on a second pair while they had some on sale.

Check out Rainbows...stop laughing. Really though they are BY FAR the best flip flops that are out there. Made from excellent leather and other materials. I live in Florida and spend just about every minute I'm not at work in flip flops. Rainbows hold up

This right here. I'm semi local to their factory and virtually live in these when I'm not at work. I'm definately not fat, but strangely enough 240 lbs of muscle weighs exactly the same as 240 lbs of chub, and under my 240 these things perform great. I'm not just cruising the mall either as they are my primary hiking shoes (southern california, not the rockies). Plus, I get them wet all the time after surfing, and the leather is just fine.

Rainbows are where its at. They are built extremely well, hold up to a great amount of abuse, and aren't too bad on the eyes either. I'm going to have to agree that rainbows are the way to go.

I have a set of Etnies flip flops that have lasted me for years so far. I have found that skate shoes are by far the best for me as I have wide feet so find regular trainers (sneakers) very uncomfortable. Those sorts of brands may well be worth looking at.

I'm a bigger guy, and I run the swimming pools at a country club, so I'm in flip flops alot of the time. I've got some chaco flip flops that have held up great and good support.

I prefer the Crocs Scutes Sandals they are easy to slip on and off. Great for around the house, pool or summer in general and they are well cushioned. I never cared much for flip-flops between my toes, they rub and chafe, I haven't had this problem with Crocs.

The only downside is they usually only last about 1 year or so, but I love mine so much I just buy new ones when they are done.
