I just got a never used '91 103BR today and the brass was very tarnished. Out came my favorite, Flitz, and I went to work on it. The Flitz removed some of the tarnish but there were still dark spotches, even after using it twice.

I brought out the Brasso and bingo, one try and the brass looks like it just came from the factory. I normally don't like using it because of the ammonia smell :barf:, but it sure did the job this time.

I wish now that I had done some pictures of the process, but who knew? This was the first time I tried to remove tarnish from brass using Flitz and had it not get it all off.

nice! I'll be sure to make note of this, thanks plumber :D

No problem. I've read that Brasso is more abrasive than Flitz, but I can't see where it left any swirls or marks. It must have something more going for it that Flitz does to clean up what Flitz left.

I'll still use Flitz first, and go to Brasso if it doesn't do the trick.

Oh yeah, I don't own any stock in Brasso!:D

well, whatever you do just see that you don't be cleaning any blued surfaces with brasso!
that's why flitz is made milder and therfore kinder to most finishes.
