Has anyone been flying with knives in the checked bags lately. I know you can't take them in your carry on but I have some Christmas presents to take to some folk and I want to make sure I wont get hassled with them in my suitcase.

Thanks
Seth

For the last 7 years , I've been flying for business, and alway take 3 knives, which are checked in my bagage. Usually 1 fixed blade and 2 folders, work knives, never had a problem.

I just flew from Michigan to Texas; in my checked luggage were 3 Victorinoxes, one Leatherman, and one Spyderco. One Vic and the Spydie made the return trip.

No problems, no hassle. The only thing that occurs to me to watch out for is one of those knives shaped like a bullet. No ammunition allowed in luggage, and it might spark some concern.

Other than that, I wouldn't be any more paranoid than usual.

Good luck!

I've done it a few times going to shows in New York, from high end folders to large bowies. No problems but I do feel better when I ship them Express mail before hand.

I'm a DOD Training contractor, when I'm not a knifemaker, I always carry two Gerber type tools and two working knives, a small fixed blade and a large folder, as well as any I have lying around to sell, up to five.
I normally stash my working knives in my large shaving kit, and carry my sale knive, in a roll or small hardcase inside my larg duffle bag.
As I am usually going to or from the Middle East, they ALWAYS toss my baggage and red tag me, and I have not, to date had a problem, I had a bigger problem with my Zippo lighter this last trip.
