What are some good FMA schools in the NYC area? Preferably in Staten Island, Brooklyn or Northern NJ.

I heard of one that was in SI that taught the Doce Pares system, called the Pilipino Escrima Assn., but it was not in the phonebook and I couldn't find the place in the shooping center i read it was in, so its probably closed.

Are there any that teach the Sayoc Kali system or is that only through seminars and private instruction?

Thanks

I second K's links...you might also wanna check out...
www.bakbakan.com

and if you specifically want the Sayoc folks, there's a guy named James Berkeley who teaches in upper Mahattan, and a fellow named Rafael Cayanan who posts here as SUN HELMET...you might wanna give a shout out directly to him here on the FCA Forum, or contact him through:
www.sayoc.com

If you want Doce Pares, there's Dong Cuesta's group, PIMA (Philippine Integrated Martial Arts Academy) in Jersey City, Mayo's Academy of Martial Arts in Woodside, Queens--for Modern Arnis, there's Guro Doug Pierre's on the Lower East Side/East Village, and Hock has a guy named Joe Reyes in Bergen County, Jersey someplace...yeesh, dude, you have choices galore! There's the Vee-Arnis-Jutsu guys near City Hall (I think their address is 25 Park Place), and there are "underground" closed-door groups floating around too, you just need to keep your eyes peeled!

Good Luck to ya, whatever you decide to do!

AGomez,

The Pilipino Eskrima Assoc. Of Staten Island is now part of Dong Cuesta's Integarted Martial Arts. The Guros are Don Edwards and Cliff Derry. Go to http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/2968/index.html
The Phone Number is 973-422-1500. The school is located in Livingston N.J. If you get over there tell Guro Don that *** ******** says hello.

Geez, I JUST remembered that my buddy Gary Gabisan is teaching Doce Pares Eskrima in the East Village! He's a Guro under Dong Cuesta, and is a hellacious fighter (all of us guys at Bakbakan like him tons!) and an awesome dude...one of my favorite people, and a great teacher, to boot! Okay, here are his co-ordinates:

DOCE PARES NYC: Thurdays, 6:30-8 PM
Musical Theater Works--440 Lafayette, NYC
