Hi everyone,

I am looking for a knife for a friend of mine, he has unique taste and wants a straight-razor style knife, something that ideally could be used for EDC type tasks, light food prep, opening packages, cutting rope and similar, nothing "hard use".

Preferably not made in China, and preferably under $100usd

Any suggestions?

Left to right
Andre de Villiers Tac Butcher
Jason Clark Spanish tip razor (Custom)
Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk
Artisan Cutlery Orthadox

None of these were in the $100 range but I think there are Artisan Cutlery versions in the $100 range.

Under $100? The Ortodox from Artisan Cutlery is pretty nice, and well under $100 with carbon fiber overlays. The Tomahawk with carbon fiber and D2 is a bit more, still under $100. The Tomahawk is a fairly large heavy knife though. There is also the Osprey, sort of a folding cleaver, a bit bigger than the Tomahawk. Artisan is made in China, but don't let that throw you off. They do make so good knives for not a lot of money.

The orthodox definitely seems to be the option most like what he's looking for. Thanks for the suggestions guys, and definitely feel free to mention any other options that you might think of.

I'm also curious if there's any more old-school looking options out there, brass or silver bolsters, that sort of thing.

Thanks again.

Gerber Flatiron. Reviews aren't great but less then $40 shipped.

Not a ton of choices in cleaver style blades. I would suggest one of the Artisan Cutlery blades.

Why not a straight razor, instead of "straight razor style"?
They can handle the tasks you mentioned.

I use my straight razor as a patch knife when shooting my Hawken rifle and "trapper" pistol. (both percussion)

Spyderco Roc will cost over $100 ;)
I'm looking too for cleaver knife. In first I thought I will get Gerber Flatiron, but now I thinking more about Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk.
Tomahawk looks great and I think it has better build quality than Flatiron. And Tomahawk has D2 steel, ball bearings...
P.S.
Ontario Carter Prime looks interesting.

There's also smaller folder options like this German Bull Barlow. Should be well under 100.

I say traditional is definitely the way to go, if a knife is going to resemble a straight razor in any way it shouldn't slice like a sharpened pry bar.

I would hands down take the Tops Tac Raze 2!! I'd imagine it has the loom he wants. The sheath is nice. And its bad ass.

For some reason my imgur isn't working. Check it out man. Id bet its a clear winner. Also the Gerber flat iron is a piece of :poop:. Hard as hell to open. Action sucks. A buddy if mine bought one and my father has one both blow.

The Krudo knives DAO model is sharp looking and a few.bucks over the.price limit, but damn it's a looker!!
