anybody find it odd that the landyard design allows the blade to come in light contact with the lanyard through normal closing? (little bit of fraying).

kind of but if it really bothers you they will send u a new one or you could just take it off. either way it doesnt impeed the function of the knife. i know its a $350+ knife and they should have the tolerance to fix it but it seems only to be an issue with the large sebenza.idk why. also they have problems making the clip screw flush on the inside of the handle slab.(again it doesnt impeed on the function of the knife, mearly cosmetic) but i wish they would make it perfect.

No because I just tied the lanyard through the hole like the old Sebenzas. It has been mentioned before, can use the search function.

Looking at my Sebenza 2000 classic that I got in 2004 (original lanyard) and can't see how the lanyard and blade would touch. There is about 2.5mm separation between the two. With a thin tipped flat head screwdriver I can push the lanyard and make contact but in daily use I can't see it would be a problem. Maybe my lanyard material is less plyable and stays in place. Not sure if CRK have used different types of lanyard materials over the years.

When you buy a NEW Sebenza, the lanyard comes tied in a way where the actual knot on the lanyard makes contact with the handles before it will allow the lanyard to touch the blade.

mines loose then. came NIB like this, so I'll have to tie it tighter i guess.

also COOP, Sebenza's now have a differently lanyard attachment (to a pin that resides in the holes in the scales)

Yes, I've noticed little bit of fraying (and my lanyard is through tie-bar and tied very tight).
The blade seemd to touch just slightly upon closing especaily if lanyard is at parallel to the handle.
Do not seemed to touch at all when lanyard is 90 degrees to the handle.

Ok, I understand the difference now. Why would CRK do that? Seems like the old way with the lanyard going through the hole in each handle worked better.

I got a large Sebenza with micarta inlays and an insigno blade last week. I noticed that the blade tip touches the lanyard where is goes through the hole in the pin in the handle. The lanyard is getting frayed from the blade after a week of carrying it in my pocket. I imagine I will end up taking the lanyard off if the blade cuts any deeper into it.

Have to keep the knot tight. as long as the loop nearest the lanyard pin is small it won't touch the blade at all. Took me a couple of lanyards before I realized this. Tight so it doesn't touch, not so tight that it won't move up and down. Just try it you see, easier to see than describe

By the way if it still touches after your sure its tight. the lanyard might be upside down. Wish i had a camera here. Take the pin out and flip it over then put it back in. Like I said its easier once you do it than describe it. The beginning of the winding should be on the top with the first full winding on the bottom. This way the lanyard is stopped by the furthest point of the scale

yeah it definitely just has to be tight. However, if it's that tight, the lanyard really makes no sense for pocket carry, as the lanyard sticks straight up off the handle (lol).

it loosens pretty quickly from general use.

as it is, an imperfect design that should probably not be there on a 350+ knife.

Your right the new knots that they use work better with the pin than the hangmans knot. I tied them tight on mine and haven't had any problems with the blade touching the cord. These have been in use for awhile now. They still work well for making it easier to grab out of the pocket.

mine has a jan 16th birthdate and has the barrel/hangman knot. what is the new knot that is somehow new in the past two weeks?

It is a pretty new feature. You can, like me just remove the thing and tie it through the slabs. So you have options.

Lately on the forums it seems some people feel lanyards are ONLY there to help remove the knife from pocket, therefore any and all knives tip down render a lanyard useless since the lanyard is in the pocket and not exposed (there was such an argument).

Lanyards are there to help you secure the knife if there is a chance for lost, dropping etc. Not only to remove the knife from the pocket.
