You ever notice how they use the exact same photos for a lot of their knives? For example, looking at the Bark River knives Knives Ship Free and DLT Trading have for sale on their websites, some of the photos are the same. I just noticed this. So does this mean that one company or the other is putting a photograph of one knife up, and then selling another that isn't pictured?... Am I missing something? This seems odd to me.

They probably use a manufacturers stock photo in their listings. Many sellers use stock photos in their catalogs.

I bought a Sebenza 21 with wood inlay from KSF and the picture of the knife on the site was the knife I got. Maybe it varies from brand to brand?

If they have a number of the same model/handle, they will use one stock photo. If the knife handle is unique for each knife, they will use individual photos.

I don't know about now, Mike or Jim would share a photo of every single handle material used on a particular pattern, when that pattern was released, on forums like Jerzee Devil. Many of those same pictures are used by online dealers selling their knives. I have seen some handle materials posted by Mike, Jim, Jacquie and maybe SFO dealers in FB groups, but not a hundred photos of different handle scales.

I'm not worried, the black micarta Hudson Bay camp knife II can't differ that greatly. The ironwood I want maybe, but there aren't many of those left. Then natural micarta, or antique ivory micarta.

Whew...

Yeah the main reason I was confused is because many of the Bark River handle materials are somewhat unique, and if I bought one that I thought was represented by the photo on the site and received a different one I would definitely return it. KSF has always sent me what was pictured, so I'm wondering about DLT Trading.

for stuff like one color micartas or g10 they may use a stock pic. for something unique like "blue and gold elder burl," it is probably the actual knife. i have purchased such knives from ksf and can say that they were the same as the picture. dlt is excellent as well but what i purchased from them was a knife with plain black micarta, but i would imagine eric takes pics of the actual knife for more exotic handles or blade finishes...

Bark River Knives takes pictures for their products, you can find them at barkriverknives.pixieset.com.

KnivesShipFree denotes that the Bark River pictures are photographed by Bark River Knives:

KnivesShipFree employs a product photographer who takes their product photographs. You can tell the difference between in-house photos and Bark River photos

The majority of the BRKT pictures are taken by Bark River before leaving their facility. Those photos are uploaded for KSF and us to use in our listings, which are done to match the invoice that they send for that run. Similar items like micartas, G10, etc share the same pictures. More unique items are individually pictured and are noted in the listing which is why you might see desert ironwood #1, 2, and 3. Those mark the three we received, while KSF might have the same numbers they should match the three they received.

If there is a specific knife you're looking for you can just ask to be sure. Most of the knives only show the front side anyways so I am always taking backside pictures for customers so they can see how well the wood matches.

Maybe both companies are drop shipping?

No, especially not with Bark Rivers. We are the only two dealers that carry the kind of sku's BRKT can produce.

KnivesShipFree and DLT are two excellent knife dealers that use the pics that Bark River provides for their knives.

Neither drop ships. :)

Another + 1 for KSF and DLT. I have had multiple purchases with both companies and have been pleased with all my transactions.

I believe you do (or at least used to do) exactly the opposite, dont you? Like you order from BRK and then they make the knives?

I'm not talking for/against/over/under Derrick/Eric, but are you talking about SFO orders? Derrick's brand Northwoods has had knives made by Queen and GEC, and I believe both he and Eric at DLT have had SFOs made by Bark River. That is different from drop shipment. If I order a fat guy sized Carhartt coat, 3xl or larger, from Tractor Supply Company, I am getting that coat directly from Carhartt, by way of ordering it from TSC. If I order a knife from KSF or DLT, I am getting that knife directly from KSF or DLT (although it looks like either company could practically drive across town at the most to get knives from BRKT).

Can't blame you a bit for that either, as Bark River does give you some really good pics. Most dealers would be hard pressed to take better ones.

We have never drop shipped (you order and then go to find the knife and have them ship it to you) and to my knowledge, neither has DLT.

We inventory every single product on our website. If you come to Escanaba, stop and see us, we'll show you.

What you're describing isn't drop shipping. When referring to drop shipping the seller wouldn't actually have the inventory nor would they ever touch it. They collect the money and have someone else do the work of handling and shipping the product.

We both will order knives from back river and have them made. Some are done to customer specifications, others are just a random assortment for the website. Either way they get delivered and we cut them a check on the spot. Then we handle the sorting and shipping of all knives.
