I'm surprised that no one has posted anything about the 5 part -- Gladiators of the Forge - series on Forged in Fire yet.
This series aired from July 6 to Aug 3, 2022 (Season 9, Episodes 13-17) on the History Channel. Two 8hr "battles" in each episode.
The winner was a 19 yr old Asian American college student attending the Univeristy of Michigan named Jesse Hu. Who?
Yeah, a 19 yr old kid named Jessie Hu. LOL!
He entered the program in the 2nd episode of the series and beat 6 other competitors -- 2 of them twice -- for a total of 8 wins to take home $50k. He made some very complex blades on the show, demonstrated excellent skill as a bladesmith and was bascially self taught -- he watched YouTube videos to start.
Suprisingly, there is very little information concerning Jesse's amazing success on the show on the Net (or at least, I haven't been able to find much). However, he has created his own website (presumably w/some of his winnigs) and is making custom knives when he has the time.
Here's the link to his site: JHuBlades. Check it out!
The kid does some beautiful work. Here's an example from Jesse's Gallery:
Jesse was mainly using social media sites like FB and Instagram to promote his work and announce new work available for sale, so I contacted him to let him know that a lot of OG's (like me) who are knife collectors often do not use social media. So, he created an email signup list on the main page his site where you can get notice of his new releases.
I already added my email address to the list and encourage anyone else who is interested in his work to do likewise.
