A good friend of mine I have known for many years Stephan Fowler J.S., was a competitor on Tuesday Nights Forged in Fire.

He invited me to attend his viewing party Tuesday night at a local bar, I saw a few more familiar faces as well. It was exciting to watch with Stephan in the room as he was able to give us a sort of commentary and answering questions as thing were happening.

Stephan Fowler is a Journeyman Smith with the ABS, has also held the title of President and Vice President of the Georgia Knifemakers Guild. Stephan makes a wide range of blades, from folders to fixed blades. I like his Bowies, Swords, and Japanese Kitchen knives. I got to spend a lot of time with Stephan at his shop over a span of a few years, the man's energy and enthusiasm is infectious, he takes great pride in teaching and contributing to the development of others in this craft.

A little bit of history between Stephan and I, Stephan introduced me to blade smithing back in Aug 2012 I was actually his first apprentice and he helped me make my first knife. I learned under Stephan for roughly 2 1/2 years before I became an apprentice and employee at Fiddleback Forge. Stephan was also responsible for introducing me to Andy through the Georgia Knifemakers Guild back in Oct 2014 which lead to my eventual employment and apprenticeship with Andy.

I am super proud of Stephan and his performance in Forged in Fire. I also like his enthusiasm for his fellow competitors and bladesmiths. Stephan is a Great guy and an awesome knifemaker, if you can watch the episode and if his style sparks your interest go over and check him out. I don't think he is very active on Blade Forums any more but here are some links to his work.

Nice. I was watching last night but feel asleep. I will finish it tonight.

Very cool. I don't have History Channel any more but with some Googling I can watch these episodes. Definitely will have a sit down and watch this .. and then will probably get hooked and watch a bunch more. :-)

I hope he did well.

I am also learning under Stephan and his knowledge and attitude just lend themselves to teaching. He is a wonderful guy that I am proud to call friend and mentor. I am looking foward to the 28th and going to the Flint River meeting and the 11th..Was nice meeting you at the viewing party as well..

he has special friends he talks to, but no ones around. lol

was a good show for sure. he did well, and his sword was awesome. he gave it a really good try.

So I watched this episode and it was my first time to watch this show. I like it! Stephen is really a character and cracked me up with talking to himself and also the hot pepper to get in his zone. It was especially funny when he gave the dude next to him a little tap/punch in the arm and about knocked the dude off his feet. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of those, full force. :-)

Now I need to go get stuck in one of those "show holes" and seek out all the other episodes.

Thanks all, It was quite fun and an amazing experience.

Andy Roy could tell a story about those little shoulder taps ;P

I have been on the receving end of those shoulder taps twice now...I don't think I want a full force one either I kind of like the use of my arms...Any man who is a full foot taller then me and swings a 20lb sledge one handed and picks up a full 100lb propane tank and has done martial arts for a long time hits hard....

As for hot sauce and talking to himself...that is because of his twitch stream...He is used to talking to people that aren't physically there and you can pay him to eat hot peppers....

Now a message to Stephan if he reads this...

FLAMBERGE!!!

I never watched any until I found out Stephan was on, I have to say I was intrigued, and will probably watch some more episodes again.

Stephan is and entertaining person to be around, he is a pretty big guy, and I have been on the receiving end of a few of those fist bumps.
