It is a mini swagger (non AO) to be exact. Call it an impulse buy, I just wanted something to use as a beater blade. I liked the design and size, (hence mini) so i went for it. Does anyone have this knife? How has it held up? I haven't bought a gerber in years and hear "not so good" things about them, but I also hear their warranty is great. So, feel free to flame me, I'm ready...

No need to ask for forgiveness. Buy what you like. Gerber does have some decent knives, you just need to be selective. No experience with the Mini Swagger, but I like my Steadfast just fine. Also, the only thing keeping me from buying an Instant is that they only offer it in combo edge. If they had a PE version, I'd be all over it.

Good for you. Bladeforums could use more posts about different knifes. There are, in my opinion, too many posts about everyone's favorites (you know the ones).

my beater blade is a CRKT m16. i also use it for sharpening practice.

Same here. I really like the looks of the Instant and te commercial is pretty cool.

Give us a review after you have used it and let us know if it performs. I am a fan of the small EDC Gerber Harsey Air Rangers, lightweight, all metal. Tough little knives with decent steel. I own a lot of knives from all different manufacturers and I think this Gerber is one of the best deals for a good EDC knife..

Looks like some good replies. I will definitely post a review. Seems there is quite the following for high value/good, cheap working knives. Hopefully this will be one of them.

I will say that I was able tow swap a knife that had been broken for about 8 years for a credit...

+1 on the Air Ranger! That was my first decent folder, used it all through high school and through several jobs, took a wicked edge and held it for a decent time. Ended up giving it to my little brother for his 16th birthday... He was so happy because he had always wanted it! Its been used for years but has no wobble and is in good shape.

For a beater, you can't go wrong. Personally, I'd prefer a thicker blade stock, but I've got nothing against Gerber

You're out of the club bro, turn in your knives and proceed to the nearest knitting web forum....:D Hey, if you like it who cares! I've had a few and had no problems. Gave my old man one tha I wasn't using anymore and he's used the crap out of it! Enjoy bro:thumbup:

Bought a Torch II the other day.

Lots of people forget that Gerber collaborated with Hinderer, and Harsey.

Using the Torch as a jumping-off point for a custom, but I might re-blade it one of these days.

RH makes a very friendly grip shape...

Why would you want forgiveness for buying a knife you like?

I have a number of gerbers and they all have served me a well. I have a LMFII that was carried for an entire tour and it was great. I have a DMF folder that I have beat the crap out of and it still works great. I have a gerber machete and a bear grylls parang and they chop and cut just fine.

Enjoy your blades, life is short.

Buy what you like - its your money.
As a forum member here, you get info on the experience of others in regards to knives and you can then make up your own mind, as to whether you (still) want to buy X-brand knife.
I bought a Paraframe folder years ago - what POS!!!
Ive heard a lot of gripe about Gerber quality in regards to some models in recent years.
They do seem to have changed direction (dont even get me started on the Grylls 'carp').
I'm how ever a huge fan of their older knives and havde several MKIIs, MKIs and several other older Gerbers. Recently got a vintage big Gerber Bowie ...and have others, which I cant seem to locate right now...

Drill holes in it and that knife is a $15 Smith and Wesson, which is also a $5 XPG ebay special. I had the XPG model. It was decent except for the grip screws need Loctite.

I had both the mini and the full size. Got a great deal on them. Didn't like them at all. They felt cheap and I didn't trust them. I sold them within a week of getting them. I am sure that they are good for small cutting task like opening mail or cutting an apple. But hey, if you like it, then that's all that matters

I do like a lot of the new Gerber designs. My only complaint with this is that put a combo edge on EVERYTHING...

A friend of mine handed me a Gerber to sharpen for him just as I was leaving work yesterday. I forgot that I ever gave it to him, I also forgot that I liked the knife. :)

I'd buy another one if I saw one I liked.

Heck....I gutted and skinned my first 25-30 big game animals with the same Gerber 'Gator'!! As a young father, I gave my son one, as well, and his first dozen game animals were just as efficiently processed with his 'Gator'.

I'm sure these knives would still do the job, but I got 'snobbish' and now I have to have customs for gutting, boning, fileting, caping and even for cutting my dinner steaks. It's a disease I tell ya.

Enjoy using your new Gerber........I most certainly did until I heard that I wasn't supposed to.......:)
