Anyone familiar with the brand Fox Cutlery? I liked the look of this knife

and was wondering if anyone had had experience with the brand?

My experience with Fox has been very positive. I was so impressed with the Fox made Spyderco Volpe, that I promptly bought two. As I recall, the Spyderco/Jerry Hossom collaboration was also made by Fox Cutlery. Fox seems to like N690Co or 440C for many of their blades and I like them too.

440c is a great, high end steel. It's not new and flashy so it doesn't really get that much respect, but it will serve you well. For my uses, edge retention is a little better than average, though not in the s30v range. Depending on the heat treat, it can take some effort to sharpen.

As to Fox knives, I don't own any, but the few I've handled seemed like top notch pieces. The onein your picture looks like a nice knife.

ok, cool. Thanks. I don't really need super steel anyway.

I just bagged two older Buck 110 knives because they are 440C blades. It is a very serviceable steel that has a nice 'toothy' edge to it that I find very effective.

Although I only own one Fox, I've handled most of the knives in there line. The build quality is on par with Benchmade, Kershaw and Spyderco IMO. They also offer knives covering the whole range of styles from traditional slipjoints to tactical autos.

I reccomend them. That one you're looking at is very nice and solid in person.

Their fit and finish is high, their construction always tends to be solid, and no they don't participate in the steel-of-the-week culture, but they do use good materials. Proper heat treatment and blade geometry are far more crucial to performance, and they follow through.

Fox makes great knives from traditional to uber-aggressive tacticools. They don't have very good distribution in the USA so most people haven't seen or heard of them (or they get locally branded).

It's indeed a reliable brand. Mind you, so are Maserin, Lion Steel and Viper - together with Fox they all reside in the cutlery town of Maniago and they all offer nice quality and that unmistakable italian flair for design and joy of life.

I have the Spyderco Volpe, and a lovely classic Fox damascus folder.
Both are as well made as anything from anyone.

Check put their Pro Hunter, one of the more attractive folders on the market:

If you don't know, FKMD is a Fox brand (Fox Knives Military Division), and they make rather serious tactical stuff.

I have the FKMD Profili, an almost elegant and scalpel-like tactical folder, and an overbuilt FKMD military interpretation of a swiss army knife, the "MPSK Survival Camp Tool":

Their big and sturdy Delta Spec Ops 1 Col Moshin folder is quite respected, and I think it got an industry award.

Yeah, i've had a look at the Pro Hunter it's on my list of possible purchases.
Finally a brand with a good rep who makes things i actually like. Most of the knives i've liked the look of weren't reputable brands.

Thanks guys.

I have a Fox 691 combat knife. It is almost identical to a Kabar USMC. It seems well built and has good edge retentino but trying to find info on it was quite hard.

Fox is great, I had three of them now two, the only drawback I saw after dissasembling them was that some of the screws holding the knives together were very short. On the Delta Spec Ops I have the blade is off center in the handle but I'm not sure if that's my fault or not.

i'm very intersted in the fox pro hunter (black coated blade, greenish micarta scales). any opinions on this product of fox knives?

I have one of these and my son has their Trakker. These are top quality knives and I believe they are the supplier to the Italian military.
