I’ve been wondering about these for awhile now, and I finally got a chance to buy a grey and black one (Frenzy III) for a great price. I initially wrote a very detailed review of this knife, breaking down all of the key points that I found important. Then I read it back, and almost vomited in my own mouth when I realized that I just sounded like a gushing fanboy, so I deleted it all.

Basically, I think that this is the best large folding knife ever made. I do have almost all of the other XL Cold Steels, and I am a fan of most of them. But for me, this is tops. I really cannot think of anything that I’d change, and I strongly encourage anyone else who is wondering about them to handle one. I’m just blown away…

It's a very nice knife. Blue and black G10 looks really cool. Just for the hell of it I checked the knife Center. It said out of stock but ships between 7and 10 days it is a cool looking blade. I would get one but it would probably cause a divorce. I'm going to miss her

Lol - give her my regards…

Yeah - it was in stock at Knifecenter until a few weeks ago. I had it in my cart, but I really wanted to try to find the grey/black one somewhere. That said, Lynn Thompson says that he likes the blue one the best, if that’s of any relevance to you.

In all seriousness, if you don’t deploy the knife, it still looks large, but it is much more inconspicuous than say an Espada when closed. I don’t think that it would cause anyone to freak out until they see the blade…and then, yeah...they’re gonna freak. My wife has already told me to never bring it out in front of her again. It’s about as nasty as they come.

I love the Frenzy, for how so much fighting folder , can be so slim , compact and easy to carry ...relatively .

I've carried the Talwar , much more often , because I don't normally need to worry about concealment , but look how much more space it occupies :
I’ve been thinking about getting a serrated Talwar. How have they held up for you so far? I’ve broken a few tips off of my Vaquero.

Those serrations are very thin edged , so tend to be somewhat fragile . Not a joy to sharpen either !

My Talwar is the old AUS8A steel , but still in fairly good shape . New improved steels may perform better . IDK ?

A real slicing machine , but can't chop or treat the edge roughly , if you want to maintain the serrations .

Recommend a PE if you plan a lot of tough cutting work .

I really like many things about the Frenzy. Chief among these is how easy it is to carry. But, I really dislike the forward curving blade. I feel like this robs it of significant utility as a tool while offering no advantages to offset it. Most of the time when I reach for the Frenzy, I end up putting it back and grabbing an XL Tanto Voyager instead -- just as stabbed and slicey, but you can also use it as a working knife.

Just my opinion of course.

I've found the Frenzys blade offers incredible penetration. That downward tip sinks into the target like a hot needle tip through butter. Also slashes very well. But on the flip side, not much utility use though.

Ounce for ounce, the Frenzy very well be the champion for most firepower per ounce in Cold Steel's entire lineup. It's so thin and light, yet hits like a heavyweight.

It is a matter of preference. I personally like my knives to do it all, or at least do more than just self defense. I feel like the more time it spends in hand, the better, and for obvious reasons.

That, and I have a romantic infatuation with the historic "They used it for everything" knives. The Facon for example, was supposedly used for cooking, processing animals, and fighting. It did it all. The Puukko and Bowie and Seax and Kukri were, I believe, similar tools that were used to do it all. As I probably said, it is a personal thing, and undoubtedly a bit silly, but then so is buying ANY other knives at this point. I will embrace my inner boy and get him whatever he likes.

I own a Frenzy and I really like it. I highly recommend it to anyone.

UPDATE:

I’ve been carrying either one of my many Demko 20.5s (I’m addicted), or my Frenzy every day since I got it. As much as I love the 20.5s, I smile every time I go for the Frenzy instead.

In practical use, I’ve cut all kinds of things with this downturned Wharncliffe, and I’ve had ZERO issues with anything. It slices, it dices, it chops…it’s the modern Ginsu ( for you younger guys:
)

Bad jokes aside, I’m just super impressed with this knife - in my estimation, it’s one of the most underrated large blades of all time. It’s light, it’s nimble and balanced, it’s strong, and it’s a veritable laser when cutting (yes, I’ve cut myself with it). In fact, I’m just going to say that I think it’s one of the best folding knives ever made…period. I have 13 large Cold Steels, and this is easily the ONE for me.

I agree with everything everyone has said about the Frenzy, it's an amazing knife. There is however, one little "issue" with the Frenzy that I discovered. Now, before we go any further, this may not actually be an issue, and may be just my lack of experience of not disassembling a whole lot of folders.

I found through dissembling mine that the entire Tri-Ad lock and it's lockup are dependent on the single top screw on the pocket clip. Meaning, if you remove that single screw, or possibly even back it out part ways, the entire lock collapses inside. I can think of several ways that could be an issue, if the clip gets ripped off, etc.

I don't know if or how many other of their folders are built this way, so hopefully someone more experienced can correct me. That being said, it's not something I would let bother me, instead just something that reminds me to keep an eye on that screw and use good threadlocker.

What?!

Don't have one, but looking at pics and a disassembly video, one of the clip screws does go into the backspacer, but looks like there are 2 other screws that should keep the backspacer in place. Otherwise it would be a real pain to switch the clip to the other side.

Check around 10:20...can see the backspacer "pop" when the clip screw is removed, but the other screws were also removed:
