When I got it years ago I thought I would use it to cut bamboo, slice tatami mats, and perhaps a few small bushes would be trimmed with it. However, the more I looked at the blade I liked it so much I decided to just keep it the way it came, without using or sharpening it. I am the second owner. The handle is big enough for a person with really large hands to grip it firmly with both hands so you can easily swing it with great force.
