So I got my hands on 3 Cold Steel Mace heads. One came with everything (shaft, langets, and set screws)... while the other 2 came without shafts. So I started trying to figure out what I was gonna do for handles. A dowel wouldn't cut it as it would likely be made of poplar or something. Ash dowels were kinda expensive and the factory shaft that came with it didn't really fit as tightly as I'd like anyway. Then it occurred to me that I have the 5' octagonal Cold Steel training staff made of poly which is pretty much unbreakable. So we cut it in half... turned it down on a lathe to be tight enough that you have to tap it on with a mallet... then serrated the insert so that I could apply West Systems G-flex epoxy (give it something to grab on)... and then I'll glue it, clamp it for a pressure fit and let the epoxy cure... then drill it for a retaining steel bolt.
I should have two of the most unbreakable maces ever when they're done.
