Fun EDC Knife?

Hopefully this doesn't come off as too silly but I'd like an EDC knife that is enjoyable to flick open and closed all day (we all do it)! I won't be using it for much utility and it's only other primary purpose will be last ditch self-defense. I need it to be legal to carry (no autos) so I was thinking of something assisted, wave, and/or flipper. I've done a ton of research and have come up with a couple (more than a couple... lol) of knives I think would be suitable:

Let me know what you guys think!

If you're looking for fun with flipping you can't go wrong with SpeedSafe. The blur in s30v would suit you.

Blur is good.
Also, BM Barrage. Like a rocket.

ZT 0801 is nearly as fast, but non-assisted.

I love my PM2. Easy to open, but not necessarily fast. I do like that fingers never pass in front of the blade for opening or closing.

Good luck!

I find manual flippers as well as button lock/axis lock knives to be the most fun. I love my Kershaw skyline and OD1 or OD2 flippers they are the ones I play with the most :) My Hogue EX-01 button lock is also extremely fun to flick open and closed

Waved Endura. It's an outlandish, but incredibly effective opening system. Not much to go wrong with it really, and it'll be something unique for sure.

Some of my personal favorites for just sitting around and flipping open/closed repeatedly...

Benchmade Mini-Griptilian w/ Wilkins scales -- The Axis lock lends itself to this type of play quite well, and the Wilkins scales feel incredible

Kershaw Blur w/ Carbon Fiber inserts -- The Blur is just a fun knife to flip open and closed. It fits in hand very well, and the assisted open on this one is one of my favorite executions of an assisted opening device on any knife. The carbon fiber inserts are a bit easier on the hand than the standard TracTec.

Spyderco Delica -- One-handed operation of a lockback does take a little practice, but the bit of manual dexterity can be rather soothing.

Zero Tolerance 030x -- A tank of a knife. The big, heavy blade gives a very satisfying twack when it is propelled open into the locked position. The feel of the 3D machined G10 and titanium is also awesome.

Kershaw Spec Bump -- The stud lock is pretty unique and definitely has a different feel. If you can't find a Spec Bump, the Speed Bump is mostly the same design. The handle scales on the Speed Bump are a flat textured G10 vs. the smooth 3D machined G10 on the Spec Bump. Or, there are the even more elusive titanium-handled Bumps...

Kershaw Cryo -- A nice, stout little framelock with both flipper and thumb stud opening (and assisted). Overall the knife just feels great in hand (has a decent heft to it).

Off your list I like the 940. I have a 943 and it's a great knife. Very sleek and all but disappears in the pocket.

On a side note, you might want to ditch all those Amazon links. That's considered deal spotting and is a no no here.

Just bought a Kershaw Skyline, It's light weight, ergonomical and it's medium to small size fits well in my pocket. I purchased one for a friend, liked it so much I decided i had to get one for myself. they are also very affordable for a knife manufactured in the good ol USA. I also have a Kershaw blur tanto, that's been a solid knife for almost 10 years. I can't say that I am a huge Kershaw fan as there models are "hit and miss" with me. However I usually end up with a handful of them in my collection and they're usually one of the first knives I look at when I am buying a gift for someone.

Waved knives are fun but will eventually shred most pockets up. They are also the fastest way to deploy a folder if you're keeping self defense in mind.

Lock backs (like the Cold Steel AK47) are strong but not very fun to play with. More of a work first mindset with those.

Flippers are fun but I personally prefer them without an assist. The hard THWACK is cool and all but you get that with a manual as well, plus it is easier to close without one. Now if you really want to get all the fun you can out of a flipper get one with bearings. Telekinetic smooth. ZT 561 CRKT Ripple to name a couple.

For me the most fun is the AXIS lock. The most truly ambidextrous of the bunch. All it takes is a pull and a flick with either side or either hand.
Compression Lock (PM2) is a close second but I don't think its as comfortable with the left hand. From what I've seen most south paws would disagree and since I'm right handed my opinion on the matter is moot.

Let us know what you decide.

From your list, The Kershaw BLUR is great.
The Spyderco Endura is awesome.
The Police might get you in trouble if there is a blade length limit but that is also a great knife.
Most of your list is pretty good stuff. You'll need to sell your other worldly belongings and start your collection now.

I'm not sure if its available anymore, but I find myself flipping open my CRKT Point Guard over and over. It was really inexpensive and I use it to open packages, clean fingernails, etc. Haven't had to stab a MF'er yet!
I was only able to find one on an auction site, but all the reviews I found were favorable. I've had mine for years and for as cheap as it is, it is a great knife.

If not alot of real world use, Spydi P'kal. Wave and Axis fun all in one. Also, very smooth and unique.

it's tough to limit one's self to a single edc model.
particularly, if one happens to own more than a couple.
but since it's more for the fun of carrying,
i would pick the very first knife
which happens to give out good vibes.
and that probably means a spear point of some kind.

I have in my pocket as we speak a zero tolerance 0200 (surprisingly edc-able), I normally edc a pm2 (love it, except I find some items in my pocket like change/ keys can get to the blades edge and dull it cause of pillar construction), but really I WANT a Kershaw volt 2 for my edc. Cheap, decent steel, not open pillar construction, and it just looks good (except the pocket clip, but not the worst I've seen). The volt 2 is also a thicker handled knife and I like that. Kinda wish my pm2 had some more roundness to the handle, the edges are a little sharp. ZT 0200, well sweet knife, but pull that sucker out and some people might get the wrong impression. ;)

Wow! Thanks for all the advice. I had totally forget about this thread! After reading all your thoughts and doing some more research, I think I'll start off with a SOG Aegis. It's a reasonable price and I really enjoy the look of the knife as well as the spring assist. I'd like to also get the Benchmade Barrage at some point also. Anyways, I'm hoping these will be a good start to my collection!

I think the most fun pocket knife I've carried recently has been a Spyderco C80CFP Dodo Carbon Fiber. It's so ugly that it is 'cute'. Very good steel - S30V. High tech CF scales and ball lock, too. Finding them in a local shop for $200 - and half-off that, was a deal, as well. My most fun carry over the last several years has been my 24/7 EDC since it arrived here - a Benchmade 755 MPR. I have tried my best to wear it out! And... m390 steel, too!

I think the Para 2 is the one of the most flickable knives, but high honors go to the assisted Kershaws. The CRKT Ripple, with its ball bearing pivot, is insanely fun in this category too. The first time I flicked it, it was so smooth and fast that I thought it was a spring assisted opener.

After you are done with this category, consider a new level of crazy with a Cold Steel XL Voyager or similarly huge Cold Steel knife (Espada, Rajah, etc.). There are few things in knifedom as satisfying as the thwack you get when deploying a gigantic slab of steel. They aren't the most practical for daily usage, but who cares. Playing with a folder that's over a foot long (open) is just fun.

I see you listed the CS Ak-47 :) thats my edc and i open and close it constantly haha. Its one great self defense blade too! Which is the reason i bought it. The Kershaw Blur is a fun little knife too. The SOG Trident is a knife i really dont care for. Just so much bladeplay in the one i owned. If you want a CRKT M16 you should get one made of AUS8 instead of AUS4. There are tons of different versions to that knife series.

Just addressing the knives i have experience with! Hope you decide and get one you like :)
