Started carrying a EDC knife and my fruit consumption went to the roofs. Its just so much fun to eat a apple when slicing it. I slice 2-3 fruits each day just to get a excuse to use a knife 🤣

It got me thinking. What other kind of quick snacks/food can you eat just by cutting it straight up. Obviously processed meats like sausages, smoked meat, Jerky comes to mind and hard cheeses of all kinds.

Does anyone have other foods that they eat, just by cutting it straight of?

As a child I was always fascinated with how my dad ate apples. Carving them meticulously with his pocket knife into bite sized pieces.

I believed it was how real men ate apples.

Fast forward a decade or so. I took a big bite out of an apple and my father looked at me sighed and said. ā€œI wish I could do thatā€.

He only cut them up because of his false teeth!

My Dad also had an interesting way to share a bag of potato chips. He would lay it on it’s side and slice it open like a capital H. So the bag laid flat like a plate.

I like to cut my slim jims in half right through the package instead of peeling the end.

TouchƩ!

I do go out of my way a bit to use "my knives" over the common kitchen cutlery when appropriate and remotely sensible, for both prep and eating. Dinner without guests present - yes, a fixed (preferred) or folder (traditionals such as Laguioles) may well be used.

And then there's the non-communal time with a snack that can be cut with a knife - Hell yeah, I've got that covered ten times to Sunday.

I smear honey all over the whole knife and then I can use it to pick up peas straight from my plate.
