Want some interesting reading?

I just picked up "Dueling: The Cult of Honor in Fin-de-Siecle Germany" by Kevin McAleer.

McAleer explores the every aspect of the duel itself as well as the social dynamics which made fencing in Germany very different from fencing in the rest of Europe. After reading this you will understand the connotations of the slogan "Blood and Honor" much better. Good social history as well as some truly bloody stories about both military and student duels.

Y'know, that's one that's been on my shelf for a couple of years now and I just haven't gotten to - I think you've inspired me! I know it's got a lot of good stuff on the Mensuren student duels (personally, I think our colleges would produce a higher quality product if we used this system too). You can also find some good info on this in "The Secret History of the Sword" by Amberger
