Hello guys!
This is a Pocket Knife i have from my grandfather who has fought in World War One. The blades have "G. Felix Gloriawerk“ and “Rostfrei” inscribed on them. It looks very well..and i was wondering if any of you could help me know more about this pocket knife.
I don’t plan on selling it!
Thank you!

I know nothing about it, but it is beautiful. Wonderful souvenir.

Beautiful "Gentleman's" Pen knife.

I don't know anything about it. The "Rostfrei" means "Stainless".

We are not allowed to speak of value at your membership level. You need a Gold level or higher for that.

I can say, DON'T over clean it, or polish it to look "new". That will destroy any value it may have.

Nice knife, and great that it was your grandfather's!
According to Carter's "German Knife and Sword Makers", Gustav Felix started making knives as a hobby in 1810. In 1843 he established a metalworking business, initially registered with the Wuppertal district court. In 1882 it was registered in Solingen. The Gloriawerk name was registered in 1909. The company is still in business, still owned by the Felix family.
As to when your particular knife was actually made, I have no idea.

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, commemorates Otto von Bismarck political founder and first prime minister of a united Germany. In office 1871 to 1890, died 1898. So perhaps dating it from 1871 (German unification) to 1898 when Bismarck died? (Wrong, see next post.)

Being 'Rostfrei', i.e., stainless steel, it would imply the knife isn't any older than maybe early 1900s. By claimed records, stainless steel wasn't invented until 1912 (Sheffield, England) and not used widely in cutlery until ~ 1914 or later. WWI era or later would fit that.

Beautiful knife.
