GB Small Forest Axe a mistake?

This is what I carry on my motorcycle for pounding tent stakes, and chopping whatever.

It was made by Kershaw. I'm not sure they still make that model, but I see a Schrade branded hatchet that looks almost identical.
I also have this Vaughan 28 ox framing hatchet. At 17 1/4 inches long, It will just barely fit flat inside my saddle bag. It would give more chopping and hammering power, but I have never needed that, so haven't carried it.

But since you already have the GB, and seem to like it, except for the handle is to long to fit the saddle bag. Why not buy or make a shorter handle to hang it on. Or horror of horrors maybe even cut a couple inches off the one its hung on now.

O.B.

Hmmm... You know, I do absolutely love my SFA head. The haft length is the only thing I'd change about it. Hanging a shorter haft or cutting down the one I have might make for a very fun project, along with making it "mine". Of all the ideas mentioned so far, I have to say, your suggestion really appeals to me. :) And I have to admit, it never even crossed my mind.

I prefer the outdoor axe to the wl.
I got rid of my sfa as I use the outdoor axe and my scfa.... I find the sfa in no mans land in my kit, awesome tool, just not my preferential choice

I have the SFA. I love it for all kinds of things. I also have an HB Almike. It’s a smaller hatchet, beautifully made, with a nice head cover as well. Likely perfect for camping and an easy fit in a saddle bag or pannier. Well worth it.
