I have an Ivory Bone version and was interested in production numbers for these Schrade Cut Co Autos. Years, Numbers, Etc. GEC does not list them in their annual production summary, so I figured I'd ask the membership.
Take care,
Josh

Are you referring to these Josh? I know nothing about the production numbers. Just thought a pic might help some folks in t he know.

Yes Sir! GEC does not recognize them as being built on their "pattern pages" or annual "Production" pages. Just looking for a little history lesson on these knives.
Thanks Bob, and I'm glad to see that avatar!

I think there were multiple runs of the Smooth White Bone/Ivory bone versions. Or one was called Smooth White bone and the other as Ivory Bone? The only documentation I have (or can find?) is this catalog that I think I received in 2012.

I know other cover options were offered in 2013 and later but they're not included in this catalog. I know there were Macassar Ebony, Black Linen Micarta, Gray Pearl Acrylic, White Pearl Acrylic (I think) and I believe there was some more Abalone but not sure if it was LVS or Green.

Wow, thank you Trand. A lot of good info you have there. You think there were additional production past the 2012 releases though?Anyone know if a version was produced during 5h3 last run of 73's (2015 I think they were run)?

Wow, I have never seen one of those before. I am having trouble figuring out how it works.

Push lever with "schrade" engraved on it by the bolster and it opens and locks. Same to release the lock and manual close.

That's a really cool design. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if they will ever release another batch.

I've heard of these but this is the first time seeing pictures. These are a secret, like it's a secret who is behind them (SMKW ??) and a secret as how to get one.
Maybe this thread will blow it wide open !

I was able to obtain one (smooth white bone, not Ivory Bone as previously stated) from the knife exchange about a year ago, and I've always been curious about the secrecy. I went to the GEC production totals "SFO sections" and nothing, so that's when I came here. Didn't GEC run 73's this past year? I wonder if a few auto versions were put out. Trand has already verified that some were run in 2013, but we have no confirmation on 2014 or 2015. For those run in 2013, we have no confirmation on numbers produced for each cover material.

Stewart Taylor owns "Schrade" and associated names so either he is behind this SFO or else knows who is, as he would have authorized the use of the name "Schrade".

Great.... Another ivory bone knife I have to try and find... Just when I start thinking I can see the end, there's an sfo that's all secretive!

No problem :)

If you search for "GEC Schrade Auto", the info is out there as to who the dealer is. They're not a paid dealer here so I won't mention them. I will say that on their site, the link for "Schrade Automatic", doesn't appear if there aren't any available. Perhaps contacting them will provide more info.

I did find an updated production list, from 2013, with more totals. They do confirm a second run of the Smooth White Bone.

The only reason I don't have one is I could not carry it anywhere!

They just look so danged cool!

Thanks to all, some good documentation here that isn't on GEC'S site. Does anyone know if the 2013 models had the Houndstooth shield as the older runs did? It would be interesting to know the history on who the SFO was placed by, for historical reference of course.

If you do ever find out more about these 'non-manual' Schrade knives please be sure to post the info here in this thread. I and i am sure others, want to know.

The ebony and micarta ones definitely have the shields. I've seen pics of the (Red) Smoked Acrylic, Smooth White Bone 2013 (I assume it was the 2013 model) and the Black Pearl Acrylic and they had the same shields as well. Also, the Black Pearl Acrylic is the only one without an end cap. I don't know if any were made in 2014 or 2015 though or if they continued with the same shield.

I'll try and find pics of the 2013 models you identified beyond the three you show and post them here. Thx, Trand.

Here's a little more info on the knives.

Beginning in 2008, Schrade produced an automatic knife exclusively for ---------. The production was intended to be for 500pcs but due to demand, that quantity has been passed and more are currently in production. These knives are produced completely in the USA and are based on old Jaeger Bros. Style. Handled in Natural and man made materials with stainless steel blade, these are a perfect size for carrying and have been well received by customers who have purchased them.

Every Blade (Except the Prototype) was etched
SCHRADE CUTLERY COMPANY.

Every Blade tang was stamped
SCHRADE CUT. CO. WALDEN NY
MADE IN USA

I really hope they do another run of these - they combine two of my current favorite types of knives: traditional and automatics! I'd drop my Protech TR4.1 in a heartbeat for a GEC auto, especially that smooth white bone.

(While I'm dreaming, I'd also like a car less than a decade old and a job that doesn't have me getting up at 3AM)

Also, I didn't know GEC OEM'd for other brands like that! Very interesting.
