the now discontinued Gerber 06 is one of the better knives that were made by the company in my opinion. USA made with s30v and a plunge lock, you could find them for well under $100 when they were around. the opening and closing action just isnt that smooth, feels like theres some resistance there, but for the price its a solid folder.

I agree they were a nice solid folder with a beefy pivot. The only negative were a couple of inclusion on the S30V blade.

I just resharpened mine last week

It is hard to imagine a more off-putting name for a knife. They should have just called it the “06”. Or maybe the “Acme 06”.

If yours started life like the one the OP showed. I like what you did at the Ricasso. Much nicer that way than with the 1/16” of unsharpened blade and slight recurved it came with.

You'll be happy to know, the knife it is based on is called the 06, still in production as the original auto version that has often been supplied to our military. The plunge lock version doesn't say "combat" on it and I doubt it will get mad at you for calling it whatever you like :D

It's an iconic knife. I've looked at the auto version more than once. I'd certainly like to see a revamped manual version. I'm not a fan of the slot/hole thing in the blade. The auto version looks better IMO.

Yeah mine had that same unsharpened portion. Can say it was an easy task to accomplish with diamond hone and hours of my time.

Gerber DMF is another solid knife they put out.after years of turds! Auto or manual. This is an auto!IMG_20200218_154116.jpg

Love the 06 Auto. Own several. One of the very few autos where both the main button and safety work well when wearing gloves. You just have to replace the mainspring with a stronger one (not sure if they're still available/sold) for perfection IMO.

Hated the 06 Fast assisted opener--different materials, construction, CoO, etc--it superficially resembled an 06 Auto but was utter trash--like most Chinese made Gerbers.

This one looks much more like the real 06 auto, just as a manual opener. Sad that this one is the one they discontinue.
