Gerber Kiowa vs. Gerber Torch II

I'm having trouble deciding between these two knives, the Gerber Kiowa and Torch II.

Id like to know what you think of the knives in question, weather you can recommend one over the other and if you have any advice.

Things to consider: Id like the knife to be sturdy. It need not be particularly large. I'm going to be using this knife for everyday carry and light utility tasks around the house. Lastly I'd like to know about the serrations of both knives, I want the serrations to be big enough to cut rope and such but I also need enough strait edge to whittle and carve.

Considering the above information which one would you chose?

All your input is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

IMO I would go with the Torch II , it does not list the blade steel from what I saw though. I like the idea that it was designed by Mr. Hinderer and is a flipper to boot.

Looks like the pricepoint of either is just shy of $40.
Torch II is said to be 440A, Kiowa 400 series ( that would make it 420HC or 440A)
Country of origin is identified for neither.

Between those I'd guess the Torch II. At least they ID the alloy.
However, at that pricepoint, I'd say neither.
If you are wedded to the idea of a Tanto (I have no use for them, perhaps you do) the Benchmade Vex is less expensive and has steel with significantly greater edge retention.
Country of origin is China. I have read posts from satisfied owners.

Thanks for the input. I've also seen another knife that I'm considering buying. Its the SOG trident, I like it because it doesn't have serrations in the tanto style (I read in a lot of places that a serrations often get in the way), has a better quality steel, (AUS-8) and its slightly larger than either. Any thoughts?

I think I forgot to mention earlier that this is going to be my new EDC knife to replace an old Swiss Army multi tool. I'm not locked into the idea of a tanto but I am looking at the tanto and clip point style of the Trident, no serrations.

ive had sogs and gerbers and i would say the quality control and materials on sog is better. the sog trident is going to be better in my oppinion IF you dont mind paying a little more, once again these are just my oppinions......

Of the knives suggested so far, I would go with the BM Vex. A very strong, solid knife, and a good size for edc.

I have the Gerber Torch 2 and it is the worst knife I have ever owned.

1. It has severe side to side blade play, probably due to the plastic washers. I've tried tightening the torx pivot screw, but it would be too tight to open.

2. The blade was blunt as a butter knife out of the box.

3. There was loose black powder on the inside of the handle.

4. It's heavy, about 6 oz +.

5. Just by handling it, the black coating on the handle is starting to wear off.
