So I was just re-watching some walking dead, and noticed the gerber apocalypse kit is in the 1st episode on the second season haha..anyone else find this kinda haha funny?
I love the walking dead but they kinda dropped the ball when it came to knife choices lol

btw i'm not anti gerber or anythin, they're cheap knives that help a lot of people first get into knives (they got me started of!) which is great..jus sayin for the show they coulda done a lot lot better

The latest season used the same knives I think. They are really good at not loosing knives. The charter Darrel carries a Busse Team Gemini or I think that's what it it. He use it to kill his zombie brother in this last run of shows.

I imagine they went with whoever would pay them to use their knives... Same reason they are all driving around in new Hyundais or whatever...

You're probably not aware that Gerber is a major sponsor of the series and is getting a lot of sales from the series.

You may have also noticed that everyone in the Post-Apocalypse drives Hyundais. Ever wonder why? Like, C'mon, it's the end of the world and vehicles are "free" for the taking, and people choose only Hyundais?

It's only a TV show.

Brand new cars at that. Hi we're in a zombie filled apocalypse and somehow Hyundai is still making or importing new cars, they have seemingly been unaffected by zombies or bad guys.

Here's the truth of the matter. I'm a Maintenance Director and I see a lot of knife users on a day to day basis. Guess what they are carrying? Gerbers mostly and Paraframe I's at that as well as Overseas Buck traditionals. These people are not knife nuts by any sense of the word. They went to the local Target and Wal-Mart and got the most affordable knife that does what they need it to do. The funny thing is that they are doing with these knives the same things I do with my Benchmade and Spyderco. It's almost like a pure innocence of knifehood that knife nuts will never go back to because they have tasted the goodness. I respect that innocence though. Knife nuts are the minority and if a zombie apocalypse could happen you would probably see a lot of Gerbers, Smith and Wesson, Winchester knives in peoples hands. I think the show is accurate in that respect because Gerber does dominate the market now. Go to any sporting goods store and see how much shelf space Gerber gets compared to other knife brands.

I will always have a deep respect for Gerber as an EZ Out was one of my first knives. I still carry Gerber to this day. I will always carry them. Another funny thing is that I carry a Paraframe on a regular basis and have never had the problems that others have described here on this forum with this knife : shrug :

If they were being sponsored by Gerber I want a Bear Grylls zombie. And if were going that far we mine as well go all the way and have him knocked out by George Foreman with his lean mean fat reducing grilling machine, George Foreman grill.

To those upset about the spoiler alert...it's your fault for not having watched the show yet. It's been over for a bit now, just sayin' :p

exactly, you must not be much of a fan of the series if you haven't watch it by now. spoiler alerts expire 1 month after air date :)

Ricks wife Lori has a spyderco awkwardly clipped to her pocket while they're on the farm.

Okay, another thing to consider is that in a "zombie apocalypse" type scenario, Joe Average isn't gonna have Striders and Hinderers and Sebenzas laying around the house. Hell, the average guy isn't even gonna have Cold Steel, Benchmade, or Spyderco laying around the house. A lot of people don't carry knives, and a lot of others just use whatever they find at the local Walmart. Knife guys will have a wide selection sure, but for the average, non-knife person, they're likely gonna carry whatever they carried before(ie, something cheap they picked up locally), or whatever they can readily scavenge from Walmarts and similar stores...which, if they're anything like the stores in this area, would be a lot of Gerbers, Winchesters, and an occasional Buck, SOG, or Kershaw.

Carol's knife was a Benchmade Infidel. Before Daryl stabbed it into concrete a bunch of times.

meh. i'm caught up on it. but MOST shows I watch are on Netflix, usually over a year after their air date. I understand certain spoilers are to be expected, but there's no reason to just spout stuff like that willy nilly IMO. That was one of the only memorable things to happen that season anyway, show sucks now.

and none of the knife nuts survived the apocalypse, they saw it happening on the news and then spent the next twelve hours deciding which three folding knives to have in their pockets, and which 4 fixed blades should go in their pack. Wait, make it five fixed blades. And by the time they were even close to being ready they were slowed down by twenty pounds of knife on them and quickly had their brains eaten.

I bought the Gerber DMF folder after seeing it in season 2.
Not a bad knife at all. The lock is an updated version of their old bolt action lock.
It's a heavy duty knife and for $50 , it's not a bad deal.
