Do any of you guys own one of these? I handled one in walmart and was kind of digging it, it seemed like it would make a good knife to leave on my workbench, and a decent price for a USA made knife.
I know gerber, well, has a crap reputation now a days but the USA made ones seems alright and a good price.
So if anyone has a sharkbelly Im just curious what you think of it. I dont think I have ever owned a Gerber before, just sharpened a bunch of the Chinese models.

The USA Gerber knives are a different class from their Chinese junk. I would say on par with most of what Buck produces, same kind of materials, fit and finish. At the end of the day it's a $30 knife so, comparative to other $30 knives.

I don’t have the shark belly, but I just bought a Gerber US Assist S30v for exactly the same reason you did. It goes in my barn on my workbench.

My normal EDC rotation is a Spyderco PM2, ZT 0450, a Southern Grind Spider monkey and a Benchmade Griptilian.

The build quality of the Gerber is as good if not better than the two Buck Vantage Pros I have laying around. (I do like the Buck heat treat better but I was less than impressed with the Bucks assembly/fitting. One of the Bucks had chips in the blade from the factory and one wouldn’t even open without adjustment).

As said above, the US made Gerber stuff they’re putting out now is in a completely different league than their Chinese junk. I really appreciate their recommitment to American manufacturing. I think Gerber deserves the criticism they have received in the past, but I think they are really making strides in a positive direction and have a few models out that have earned my respect. (Gerber Strongarm is one example)

My initial impressions of having the US Assist are so good I’ll be picking up a shark belly.
