I'm interested in purchasing one of these bad boys, but i'm a little skeptical on the steel. is 154CM worthy for the $200 price tag? i plan on actually using this knife for the summer on various activities ranging from canoeing to hiking mt katahdin and need a reliable knife for a reasonable price.

Checking the knife out, I can say... pass. Incredibly expensive for a not so impressive steel. Honestly a simple Mora would serve you far better. Something like the Mora here http://www.knifeworks.com/moraknivesblackcompanionfixedssbladerubberhandle.aspx would work just as well for under 1/10 the price. The Sandvik steel Mora uses is known for being quite the superb steel for balanced performance. Take a killer edge in little effort, holds it nearly as well as far more expensive steels, and has a nearly particle steel grain structure. If it was announced tomorrow that every knife was going to be made with Sandvik steel I would not be mad. Very confused, but not at all mad.

154cm can be had for both cheaper and more expensive than that. I think that you can find much better options for that price tag though. Are you wanting other suggestions for an outdoors fixed blade or simply asking opinions on that specific knife?

I have one, the handle it's well designed, but the purpose of this knife it's not bushcraft or hiking. Anyway, it's nice to collect :)

What's up with gerber logo on Silver Trident. Bought two and they do not have logo shown in Gerber catalog or Amazon or Knife sites. Just the word "GERBER". Is this counterfeit, chinese made, quality control standard, or what? Love to find answer. Thinking about sending them back and going with something else.

That's one of the new logos, just "GERBER" with no sword-emblem. You can look it up online.

I know this is an old thread, but perhaps that' what I need. I bought one of these and was very impressed with the grip. I was feeling pretty strong about it, then I saw a video where someone broke the blade right in half about where the serrations start at the back. He didn't do something too insane, just struck it with a rod and WHAM! The knife was now two pieces.
Has anyone had problems with durability with this blade? The video just stuck in my head and the knife when right into my collection instead of being a potential use knife.
