This Gerber knife sells for about $40.00. Is the knife 1/4" thick? Is it worth the money?
Thanks,

OK, I know this is a inexpensive knife, but just humor me. I'm looking for a beater and this Gerber looks about right.

Write up in TK a while back said it was not too bad. I'm sure it better overall quality than anything Lewis and Clark use don their journey.
If YOU like the knife go for it.

I just picked up a Gerber Harsey hunter with a kydex sheath. It's a lot like a really heavy duty Mora. The sheath isn't great but it's not bad either. I'm not a big fan of kydex in general, so YMMV. I haven't used the knife very much yet, but it's comfortable and inexpensive and the factory edge isn't bad either.

Here is a review I found on the youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzxjpFCNIYQ

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I will be placing an order today. I also have my eye on the CRKT Ultima 7" blade. does anyone have any experience with this knife?

In my experience CRKT doesn't give their knives a good heat treat. If you want another inexpensive user knife I'd check out the Ontario SP line. I also like cold steel fixed blades. I recently found a Carbon V tanto for $35 on the exchange.

Great suggestions, but I am looking for something stainless, high humidity where I live. Can anyone tell me if the Gerber Steadfast ground from .25" stock?

There are not a lot of fans of Gerber knives here. Have you looked at the buck 119? The black jack Grunt is a good deal too, it is about $25.

How much does it weigh? Most of the 1/4" choppers are close to 1lb.
Here is a bit of a review, says it's 11oz, so probably 1/8"...but I'm guessing here....and RC6 weighs the same and its 1/8".

I'm not a big Gerber fan, mainly for the low grade steels they use. This one is 440A which is a step up from the surgical crap they use on their low end stuff. But for $37 or whatever, buy it and beat it to death :)
