Gerber Yari 2

I'm not sure, but I picked up one for half price the other day (store clearance), so I would assume it's been around.

Wow, I guess not very many people have had any kind of experiance with these.

yinyang,

How have you like the knife so far? :thumbup:or:thumbdn:

If I remember right, the Yari has been around for quite a while. I think this one is redesign of the original

that does not look like my yari at all. mine has canvas micarta handles and 154cm steel and IWB sheath.. this must be a new "version". i stopped buying gerber when they were bought by fiskars. fiskars is using them as a cash cow and feeding off of their former reputation. i haven't heard much good about the "new" gerber knives. But YMMV. :)

the original yari is outstanding.....grab one off ebay if you find it.

BRASMAN-

I like the knife just fine. Well worth what I paid...under 70$. I doubt that I would have paid over 100 for it though, if only because there are so many excellent options at that price point. (The same store had a Spyderco Dayhiker? for 110$) Gerber's sagging reputation around here shouldn't dissuade you from this knife if you like it. It is better built than their cheaper offerings-like the paraframe...ugh. If there is a con to the Yari 2, it is the sheath. I would have preferred the Yari 1 style IWB over the military/LEO friendly one it comes with. I haven't brought myself to use it yet, so I can't properly comment on durability, edge holding, etc.

The ones I saw in a local store were $75 so I figure that is a decent price for a fixed blade made out of that steel. If I had the $75 I would buy it and probably will in the future as well as a prodagy or an LMF. Gerber has some good stuff and some junk just like the other popular companies. An IWB shieth would be great though.

Sounds like we may be shopping at the same store. Also, maybe the price drop reflects the realization not too many people want to pay 120-150$ retail for a(ny) Gerber. But I paid substantially less and am content.
