Does anyone own or has handled this knife? Any comments about it in terms of practical functionality, aesthetic, ergonomics, etc?

Welcome to the Forums!

Very decent knife but the sheath should be better. As Tim Wegner (BladeTech) stated originally they were going to issue it with BladeTech Tek-Lok multi-position clip but later changed to built-in G-style clip to reduce production costs. However Tek-Lok clip matches sheath's holes exactly so you can add it by yourself.

This is just update to my impressions on Yari knife, the rest you can find here.

I've had mine for about a month now. Got mine from Bayou Lafourche.
Very sharp. I like my sheath. I had my buddy Dremel the clip off neatly. I installed a Blade-Tech IWB loop. It wears very comfortably in an appendix carry. I say give them a call. WWW.KNIFEWORKS.COM.....

Some more comments on the Gerber Yari are here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161841&highlight=yari

The Yari is what I would call an "honest" knife, i.e. not pretending to be anything it's not. The design is very function driven. While it works well in the kitchen and for other everyday cutting, it is a tactical knife in its soul and body. It's built for use, not for show. IME getting a very pointy 154CM tactical blade that is just shy of 5" long (from tip to micarta scales) for about $70 seems quite reasonable.

I find it's size & relative light weight makes it one of my favorite IWB carries. Execution Style has a great recommendation on the Blade-Tech loop. :) That's exactly the addition I made to my Yari sheath and it has become my favorite attachment method for IWB.

How would this knife serve as a general woods/camp knife, say teamed with a hatchet or machete?
Sorry Serg, I couldn't get your review to come up

Ravenn,
Supported with the hatchet it will probably match all your camping needs by all means!

Hmm, I have checked out the link, it works for me.
There are pretty clumsy pictures, ill for the pixeloze, but this is not my guilt, I did my job decently ;)

Thank you Serg. I like the thinner blade steel, when coupled with a hatchet/axe/saw. My present EDC is a Grohmann and it is also 1/8 " thick. I would prefer a bit longer blade, so the Yari sounds like just the ticket.
Thank you..

an "honest" knife
Those three words sum up the Yari really nicely.
It's not a medium sized sharpened pry bar.
It's not the epitomy of a "tactical" knife, but can work within that role if need be.
It is a very well designed cutting tool that is comfortable to hold while using, holds it's edge very well and is thin enough at that edge to be really useful.
I love my Yari. I actually prefer this knife over the large Nimravus. Not to knock the Nimravus, but the Yari is more comfortable to use and has a thinner edge. The Nimravus seems to me to be a more "tactical" design, while the Yari seems geared more toward a working or utility type of blade. As stated above, it can work as a tactical if need be.
The sheath on the Yari is a bit cheesy, but it works for me. However, I think a Tek-Lok would be a big improvement for the sheathing system on the Yari.

Welcome to the forums Truppen!:D

I consider the Camillus CQB-1 to be in the same 'class' as the Gerber Yari. I personally like the fit and finish better on the CQB-1. The CQB-1 is about $30 dollars more (American) then a Gerber Yari. For that price difference, you get a more versatile sheath, a blade that is approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) longer and, a more pleasing grip (my opinion).

Because the Yari is thinner stock and ground a little higher, you have a thin edge that is a good cutter. The steel on the end of the grip is fashioned into a point so, is better for striking an opponent in a hostile encounter. Black blade coating is a matter of personal preference (I think it makes the Gerber Yari to agressive looking for 'general' utility work).

Overall, the Gerber Yari is a good value at ~$70 and, if it fits your intended use, is a good buy.

Thanx Serg and thanx for the warm replies people! Got myself a piece without partial serration a couple of months back.........love the finishing and overall feel of Yari. In the opinion, the sheath is pretty decent....though the addition of BladeTech Tek-Lok multi-position clip would be fantastic. By the way, it was stated in the specs that the fastenening screws for micarta attachment to the tang is stainless.......anyone can verify? Thanx.
