I came across this knife at a local back-o-beyond gun shop and it caught my eye.

It's a German Bundeswehr field knife.Though admittedly I haven't been able to find out much about them.
Mine has a Kissing Crane symbol, the name Robi Klaas and Rostfrei on the blade as well as 1to125 farther up the blade.
It feels well built and cuts well.I even battoned a small piece of softwood to see how well it would be for a small camp knife.
Do any of you have any of these knives? If so please share your info about them.

Thanks.

I might very well be misremembering this, but I think you may have a (nicely made) modern repro of the issue knife. The decal on the scabbard is a clue.

Perhaps other here may be able to shed some more light...

I had one and loved it. It was razor sharp and tough as nails. I gave to my brother when I got a Busse.

I think you are correct.

That knife looks like an original to me. More than one German companies made this knife.

Original or repro, I don't know, but I never saw that knife on the belts of any German troops in my AO from 1976 to 1982!

Bruce---I "think", ouch, that knife was introduced in 60's and was around into the 70's.

I don't own one of these knives, but I got some info you might find useful. The originals were produced 1968-1970 by three different companies. These were 1.Weyersberg, Kirschberg and Cie 2. Fa. Otto Förster and 3. Friedrich Koch. Förster and Koch don't exist anymore, not sure bout the first one. The steel used in the knives ranges around 1.4034 and 1.4116. I don't know how many companies produces this knife at the moment, at least Hirschkrone does, whereas in the past there were several companies who did.

The cheapest copies come from "Mil Tec" AFAIK.

The german army doesn't issue this knife anymore. Now it's the Eickhorn KM2000. It's considered a field knife, mainly for utility. "Knife fighting" is only taught to the KSK - but I'm not sure how much it is worth. ("tactical deanimation activities", ya know...:D) But the KSK's official combat knife is the Böker A-F dagger with black coating and a kydex sheath.

I have one made by Kissing Crane that was made in 1969. Great little utility knife design. Wish it was something other than 420 series steel, but I still like the knife.
