The 'stoves' that supposedly nest around the GI cup and when flipped over hold it up high enough for a stove or small fire underneath...

I ordered one which appeared to work. It is too skinny. My cup doesn't nest in it either way. For storage it is about 2" shy of sitting flush with the bottom of the cup and for cooking the cup just rocks around on top of it.

The canteen itself does fit nicely though. I know the old canteens were metal, did they make these stoves for them?

Anyone know where I can find a stove that nests properly with the CUP, not with the CANTEEN?

Thanks!

I dunno, mine fits the cup quite nicely, although I have to straighten the edges occasionally as they get knocked out of shape with rough handling.

Not that I know of. Everything I've purchased was listed as USGI but most of it was bought from different stores.

Can anyone provide me with a link where they bought a stove that fits the stainless steel cup? I'll just buy a new one.

My cup is US Gov't Issue(butterfly wire handle) fits perfect. your cup and canteen might be the import after market ( especially metal canteen with old style handle).

What style handle do you have on your cup? The old style handle folds under the canteen cup. I have one cup like this with 1945 stamped on the bottom. The newer stove stand doesn't nest with this cup when the handle is down. In the cooking position it doesn't sit securely on the stove stand.

The newer cups have a butterfly type handle that wrap around the cup when storing it. In the storage position the stove stand should be between the cup and the handles.

I believe that there is a style of stove stand that will work for the old cup with the handle that folds under the cup. That can be found here. http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/product/desert-storm-canteen-cup-stove-4221.cfm

I haven't tried it though since I have both the newer cup and stove stand.

Iv'e never seen that type before. Judging by the picture /drawings on how to use, it doesnt' look too stable. It looks like the wire handles hold up the cup while cooking.

The stove I have is open on both ends, is made of aluminun and is dated 89. My cup is the older mod where the handle folds under when not in use. It is marked U.S. Ingersoll poducts. Every G.I. canteen plastic or WWll metal fits fine so do the Nalgene canteens.

If your stove, cup and canteen are G.I. they should have some type gov. marking. DOD#, U.S., contractor name or date.
Could you be trying to us a NATO canteen cup and canteen with a U.S. stove?

My canteen, canteen cup and Natick stove all nest neatly together in my canteen pouch.

When I assemble the cup onto the top of the stove, it goes in part way, and is held securely. Maybe you have bent something?

Nothing is bent. I have the 'new style.'

Here is the cup and canteen:

Thats not a U.S.G.I. stove and wont work with your cup. I believe that is a swedish stove.

Yeh, that looks like a trangia stove. You need to prop the cup onto some rocks and place the burner below it. I've tried that before and it takes a long time to get a boil. You can make a lid from tin foil for the cup to keep the heat in and get faster boil time which will use less fuel.

not to be technical but what you are showing is called a trangia alcohol burner the stove is what the pot or cup sits on below is a link showing Canteen stove
hope this helps

P.S. The trangia works good with the GI stove much quicker then the old Trioxane heat tab we had for heating our C-Rations

That isn't the stove he's talking about.
He tried to hotlink a pic from Alpharubicon of the stove and they don't allow it.

...

i use a trangia with my canteen setup...

u just need to take a few nails and prop the cup on top of the stand, if you nestle the cup into the stand and try to put that ontop of the stove, there is not enough ground clearance for it to burn and the stove goes out i believe..

you can see the trangia underneath

What I do is dig a small hole to lower the trangia so it sits at the proper level below the stove. or you can find a few sticks and raise the stove higher over the burner:D

lol. a couple nails dont cost much, nor do a few cheap metal tent pegs =)

Wow, I never realized this would be such a tough question.

CPL has it right. The pic shows up for me so I wasn't aware it didn't work for anyone else.

Ignore the trangia. Obviously that stove will not nest with the cup.

The "stove" I'm referring to is the little base that Mike and Rock posted. My stuff looks just like theirs, but doesn't fit my cup.

If someone can just provide a link where they bought the base/stove that DOES fit the butterfly handle cups, please let me know. That's all I'm looking for.
