Any GI Tanto owners on the board, if so how do you like them. I have one on the way. Would have preferred if they were made in Taiwan, but have seen a lot of stellar online reviews. They appear to be almost indestructible. Thanks in advance

Just my 2 cents, I got one recently :
The tip is very thin, it will be prone to snapping if twisted. Other than that the knife looks solid.

That’s literally the only thing I’ve heard of regarding this knife (tip snapping). But I’m of the mindset that can happen to any knife if you use it like a pry bar.

My son had taken his on many hikes and has nothing but praise for it, especially considering the on sale price he got it for a while back.

That’s the other reason I ordered one. Almost all reviewers said that for the price, it’s one of the best deals on a bug-out/survival type/beater knife hands down.

Recently started a thread on this. Decent knife, but the sheath on my particular unit does dull the edge. Since I have a sample size of 1, I don’t know how common this issue is. Never had issues with other Secure-Ex sheaths.

As for the knife itself, it’s a good deal for the price. However, two things which I think “impede” the function are the top guard and the finger choil. The top guard gets in the way when I rest my thumb on the spine for more precise cutting. As for the finger choil, I’d rather omit it altogether and get more cutting edge. These two modifications would improve the design greatly.

For a couple of dollars more, I think the Recon Tanto is the better long term survival knife. Otherwise, in the budget beater category, I find myself preferring the Bushman over the GI tanto.

I like mine. cheap and thought the 1055 was a bit softer on purpose to be very tough and durable. ive never broke the tip of one yet, but i dont tend to stab in hard wood or whatever material and twist either. never needed to do that for any reason I can think of

Funny how none knife people look at knives. My son isn't into knives, he uses them but they are just a tool like a screwdriver to him. I originally gave him a San Mai Japan Recon Tanto, he bought the GI Tanto off Amazon and gave me back the SM. Me being a knife guy colors my outlook, I mean a SM or GI Tanto no contest for me, he just wants what works best for him. Kinda makes you realize how your perception can be changed with out realizing it.

Excellent point! I feel whenever you have any kind of a hobby forum/group (ie. Knives, guns, aquarium enthusiasts, fishing, whatever) there is a tendency to view things through a very narrow prism. It’s easy to forget that most people are just interested in what works for them/makes them happy. Sort of like how a lot of knife purists dislike Cold Steel for reasons that have nothing to do with the knives themselves, LOL!
