Apart from the sales forum section i don't see (m)any threads on their knives. I know it is a young company, doesn't have a long "tradition" like Spyderco but one could argue that Spyderco is a young player too. Never mind age.

I have for example a question on the lock up of the ACE Riv, would you owners agree/confirm that it is very early as seen on some photo? The riv pocket clip looks more practical than the suru pocket clip, so i wanna try one.

Any much love for GiantMouse knives? "All" threads on their knives are found in the Sales forum section seems like.

I can't speak to the Ace Rev or Suru as I don't own either, however I own the Ace Sonoma made by Reate and it's a fabulous knife with perfect lockup (about 33-40%), detent and flipping action. I know there are several on the forums who have the same experience as me with the Sonoma. The Sonoma is the only Giantmouse knife I own so far.

Personally I don't have an issue with early lock up as it will wear-in with time, and/or easily modified by bending the lock bar slightly in.

Jesper Voxnaes has stated that they've encountered issues with quality from Italy and that's why they went to Reate in China for some designs. So far I haven't found another design that appeals to me but I still hold Giantmouse in high regard. Jesper is very responsive on Instagram and that's one of the reasons why I like the company.

I recently bought a Ace Biblio in Burgundy Micarta and really like it. I have zero complaints on it. I had read complaints about the early ones having detent issues but mine is fantastic. Lockup and quality is great as well. It's the only GiantMouse knife I have handled though

The Riv is easily my favorite knife in that size range. The build quality, fit, and finish are all superb. Definitely a step above the similar Vox designs that are made by the Italian companies, IMO.

I guess, i could just order a Riv and then return it for a full refund if it didn't pass the spine whack test. Would sound fair enough to me.

Yeah that's enough to fail the spine whack test as did my one suru. In that small folder category, the riv seems to have it all: Elmax, generous finger choil, i.e. long-life sharpenability, light-weight, compact (in every dimension), practical pocket clip, practical blade shape, thin grind, ti hardware, ceramic bearing, steel insert, lanyard hole. Okay, looks, a matter of taste, can't be argued.

halden.doerge halden.doerge Is your lockup very much similar to that linked photo in the op?

Here's what mine looks like:

I'd say it's around 33% lockup. And it's been rock solid in use with no issues for me. Great detent, no play, and great flipping action, too.

Anyway, original pricing for Riv was:
180usd for the micarta/ti,
195usd for the brass/ti,
210usd for the titanium/ti
restocked 2021-07-29 at 6p.m. berlin time:
420pcs micarta,
260pcs brass,
250pcs titanium.
new prices: 195$, 195$, 220$.
let's see how fast they sell out on the GM website:
rivInStock = TimeSeries[{ {"2021-07-29", {420, 260, 250}}, {"2021-07-30", {363, 206, 182}}, {"2021-07-31", {360, 205, 175}}, {"2021-08-01", {356, 201, 173}}, {"2021-08-02", {354, 198, 167}}, {"2021-08-03", {350, 195, 161}}, {"2021-08-04", {350, 195, 160}}, {"2021-08-05", {348, 195, 157}}, {"2021-08-06", {348, 193, 152}}, {"2021-08-07", {348, 193, 151}}, {"2021-08-09", {346, 193, 150}}, {"2021-08-11", {346, 190, 149}}, {"2021-08-12", {345, 187, 148}}, {"2021-08-20", {338, 182, 137}}, {"2021-09-06", {325, 173, 127}} }]; DateListPlot[rivInStock, PlotLegends -> {"riv green micarta", "riv brass", "riv titanium"}, PlotStyle -> {Green, Orange, Gray}, PlotLabel -> "'in stock'-numbers since restock", PlotMarkers -> Automatic]

oki got the riv. the pocket clip has a polished blingy bling-bling appearance on photos and in RL, definitely not gray or matt. at a closer look i can tell it's -by far- not a real mirror-polish. The clip is finished, i.e. polished, but the mircopitted(?) result was hardly intentional. Or maybe it was: a scratch-resistant blingy finish? Nah i doht think so:

In any case, today i deepmirror-polished the two pseudomirrors's from the above photo with the same proven sequence of 4 polishing steps:

The result is the same grade A+ for all three now:

I have a total of four different wire clips which all fit the riv/techno2/etc (wire clips seem to be compatible among each other, noice!):

The fourth clip is gray-finished (by sandblasting?) and erh i'll leave it like that. I appreciate the higher lip! The laziest photo a grapher can take thanks:

I dunno why you'd think spine whacking a folder that's only like a bit under 6" overall would mean a lot.

I've got an all-ti Riv coming tomorrow, looking forward to trying it out. My GM experience is broadly pretty good. The flipping action on the flippers isn't great, but it's workable. Fit and finish is always beautiful. Love how everything is so nearly chamfered and rounded.

it's so small that the blade tip pierced my palm flesh when flipping by the index. the flipper tab is improved: it's grippy now (not slippery as in the initial release Dec '20). i still flip by index or middle finger but i make sure that the knife "lies" relaxed in my hand when i deploy the blade.

at my first disassembly in future, i'll consider mirror-polishing the screw heads. it is un-anodized titanium and i believe the hardware would benefit from the deeper bling.

Good luck with your riv unit, and please let us know how you like it!! (spine whack test easily passed, thank god)
I wanted a really tiny little knife, looking forward to trying it!

madcap_magician madcap_magician i like dynamo . have you tried it what say you?
i noticed that the pivot screw head isn't flush on either scale.
Dynamo? Not sure what you mean.

I did get my Riv yesterday. It is very, very small, and I like it! Flipping action is quite good given the small tab, and the lockup and blade grind are really stellar. A lot of the GM knives I've had are a bit thick, but this one is nice and slender without being razor-blade thin like the GM7. The shallow hollow grind makes it a good cutter.

Thx for the report!

I'm looking into buying the Lynchnorthwest clip, i saw several pix on insta with it. Finger can rest on it without exerting pressure on the lock bar.

Dynamo is Europe's best known street magician (your nick).

That might be a good improvement, it's such a small knife that it's hard to avoid resting your fingers on the lock bar.

if the GM8 comes to the Ace platform (I see no reason it wouldn't) I'd jump on the GM wagon for the first time.
