Giantmouse / Ace Clyde issues?

Wondering if anyone else has issues, or if mine is a one-off.

My Ace Clyde arrived today. Out of the box, it had ridiculous blade play - like, "touch the thumbstud and the blade taps against the liner" levels of blade play. When open, it could best be described as "wobbly".

Got it home, tightened the pivot to a reasonable level, and now it no longer locks up - the lockbar is too long to engage with the lockface when the pivot isn't loosened. Apparently, someone at the factory loosened the pivot till it could lock, called it good to go and shipped it.

Thing is, micarta folders aren't all that common, and I like the design of this one. I'm hearing other stories of bad Clydes, but I'm wondering how widespread it is - if it's worth trying a replacement before giving up on it. Anyone got any good ones - center blade, solid lockup, no bladeplay?

It is a knife I'm interested in, so I would like to hear more opinions as well.

Man, that's bad. I keep hearing people having bad experiences with GM, but all mine have been great.

And that Clyde is looking so good... gonna hold off for a while, and watch this thread.

I would reach out to the company and at least hear them out. It isn’t a cheap knife and Giant Mouse seems to be a reputable manufacturer, so I think it would be worth your while to give them a shot.

I thought it looked intriguing in the KnifeNews article. Sorry to hear about your issues. Let us know about their customer service.

I purchased the G-10 model, and have seen none of the issues you experienced. Lock-up and centering are perfect with zero blade play. This is my 6th purchase of a GM knife, and every one has been spot on for fit and finish. No quality issues at all. Sounds like an outlier.

Hope they take care of you.

I bought the ace Clyde in brass, and I’ve been experiencing the same issues. I previously owned the green micarta Biblio and sold that because function wasn’t very smooth but this ace Clyde is worrisome. The knife isn’t smooth and no matter how I adjust the pivot I can’t quite find a balance of smooth function with minimal blade play. Back it goes, and I’m done with GM. Their prices should command near perfection on these little pieces.
