The greatest aspect of the Glock is that they always go bang. When you stop to think that 2/3 rds of the law enforcement agencies in this country carry Glocks, there has to be a reason. I own several Glock pistols and I've recently started having some custom work done. I wholeheartedly recommend Mark at L&M PRECISION. Mark has done work on two of my Glocks. He does amazing work at reasonable prices.

To me a Glock is a blank canvas. This is my current version; it is a Glock 23 that has an ATOM Package installed by Mark at L&M Precision. The ATOM allows mgr to mount a Trijicon RMR or a Docter D3. It also has suppressor sights that co-witness with the red dot. This pistol currently has a 9mm conversion barrel installed. When all was said and done it shot amazingly. Combat speed head shots at 20 to 25 meters. The only problem was the butt of the pistol printed when carried concealed under a t-shirt. I chopped the grip to accommodate G26 magazines and it became the ideal carry piece. I love it and so do my buddies who have shot it.

Here is my G26 with a Docter D3 mounted directly onto the slide. This is the most compact package that my 57 year old eyes can use out to 50 meters effectively.

I love a 1911. Day in and day out you will frequently find a Springfield EMP on my hip but in my truck you'll find the above Glock 23 with a holster and half a dozen G17 +2 mags ready to it up.

I always thought Glock screwed up with its motto, "Glock Perfection". That was confirmed with their Gen4 recalls.

I just noticed your location. My step son just finished basic at Ft. Benning :D
That's cool. There are so many things you can do to a Glock, but they aren't required for reliability. I'm not sure I would want a big sight like that on a carry gun though.

I had a 17,19 and 21 when I was still shooting competitively, but now only have a 36. It's a great pistol, but having big hands it just didn't fit like I wanted, so I got out the Dremel, and made some changes :D

First off was removing the stupid trigger guard hook. The next and most critical for making it fit better, was relieving the bottom of the trigger guard where it meets the front strap. This was also the most nerve racking, because that area is very thin, and I really didn't want to go all the way through  :D

Next was lowering and reshaping the thumb relief, so I could get my thumb a little further away from the slide. After this was done, I slightly reshaped the finger grooves on the front strap. I was going to completely remove the raised areas and flatten it out, but I found it to be very comfortable, so I stopped. I thought maybe I was pushing my luck lol.. You can't really see it in the picture, but I very slightly reshaped the beavertail area as well.

Final step was to clean up and polish all components in the trigger group assembly. I didn't want it much lighter for a carry gun, just wanted to really clean it up. It ended up being very smooth and crisp. I haven't put a scale on it, but I am guessing it is around 4 pounds, maybe a little less.
When I had the trigger assembly out, I radiused all of the edges on on it, so it feels a little better. Also radiused the edges on the mag release.
I have put a couple thousand rounds through it, and it has never had a FTF.

Glock offers massive discounts for law enforcement purchases... don't think they only reason they are used is because so many people like them in law enforcement. Budget has A LOT to do with it.

I've always thought the choice for Texas State Troopers was in interesting one. Sig P226 in .357 sig.

Lots of guns have had recalls and glocks was less severe than others. It was just minor ejection problems caused by the springs on the 40's i believe. Never had one single problem with my g19 gen 4. Pistols I've tried so far are two XDM's, a Sig p229 and p938, and glock 30 and 19 gen 4. Sold all the rest except the p938 and still trying to sell the p229 but going back to glock or trying M&P Pro Core or FNH FNS when they make either in a .45 but next buy will be a g27 gen 4 or g30s gen 4 when it comes out. But that probably won't happen for a while cause of this goddamn knife addiction of mine.

I went with the RMR because at my age it was impossible to get a clear front sight. After seeing all the troops at Benning sporting their ACOGs on their M4s I tried an Aimpoint on my AR. Shooting tennis ball sized groups at 100 meters made a believer out of me. This red dot gives me the ability to shoot precisely at greater distances. It works and has minimal impact on concealed carry.

To each his own. Thanks for your comments.

Very nice gun by the way. I like how the mag well has about a 1/2 inch cut off. Which they made a version with a short magwell and really long slide.

They are reliable, but the reason there so widely adopted is MONEY

Its just a mass produced KISS piece

338375, is that skate board tape on your magazine? I just added a couple of pieces to my EMP, greatly improved my control of the pistol with +P loads.

Brad, whereabouts in the Rockies do you hang your hat? I spent a chunk of last summer up there. My brother lives near Fairplay. I love it out there.

Thanks for the comments,

Rick

Yep, Glock Perfection perfected... ;)

The only reason I haven't checked out the HK is I'm afraid I'll love it. I might just have to pick up an HK USP 9mm compact.

I'm in Colorado Springs right now.
Those damn black hats scared me out of Ft. Benning ;) Feet and knees together

Sorry for the delayed answer Rick. Yes it is skateboard tape. Great stuff isn't it ?
When I rounded the trigger guard, and reshaped the rear of the trigger guard for a higher grip, I used black textured spray starting at the front of the trigger guard, and followed it all the way to the bottom of the front strap. It's hard to see it in that picture though.
I used the SB tape in various places, to see where I really wanted to add grip, and then sprayed them with the black textured spray.

The stuff works great, you can get a few different grits, and it's cheap. I've used it on a few 1911 carry guns too, on the front strap. It's amazing how much difference it makes when removing the pistol from a holster quickly, especially when your hands are sweaty, or when shooting in the rain.

Glocks are awesome guns, the reliability and simplicity combined are among the best. As much I love the 1911 (which I carried in the Army), if I had to whittle down to 1, it would absolutely be a Glock. To me, they are to semi's what Rugers are to revolvers. Not the prettiest, don't have the best out of the box triggers, but they are brute strong and reliable, which is all I'm looking for. YMMV.
