Good flannel shirts?

I'm trying to find some good flannel shirts that aren't terribly expensive. I don't want them to bleed or shrink in the wash or when they get wet. Pill'ing is a definite no-no. I want good quality fabric, stitching, and a medium weight.

In the past, I mail ordered some Five Brothers shirts which I liked but, I'm having trouble finding them now and I have read many bad reports on-line that they are now made in China and are poor quality.

What's working well for everyone?

When I was younger and wore flannel shirts all the time, Woolrich was a really good quality shirt.

Duluth Trading has some brushed canvas shirts under $20 right now. (I know, not flannel - but as warm and more durable)

Try a local farm store..we have TSC [Tractor Supply Company]...usually have racks of working man's shirts. Had Five Brothers in past, wore like iron.

I've worn Cabela's heavy canvas garment or stone washed shirts for years,,can't wear them out IMHO, pitch when they get that grimy looking collar band that won't wash out.

Learned to layer a little late in life but best way to dress for where you're at..now live in FL..still visit family in areas where they all OWN snow shovels and plows..and use them regularly.

I lived in Woolrich chamois shirts for years. I liked the loose cut and the clean look of a single color. Still have a closet full but work from home now.

Take a look at Cabela's medium weight chamois shirts. Strictly speaking they're not flannel, but I like them a lot better - they don't pill and they wear well.

I know they aren't inexpensive on face value, but I own several Patagina flannel shirts and they seriously last forever and just get nicer with more wear and washing. So, maybe $60+ or a shirt seems expensive, but when you own one that looks brand new 3, 4, 5, etc years, the investment is obviously a good one.

Duluth trading. Best flannel shirts I've worn in a long time and they carry XLTall which is good for me.

Give them a try. My wife gets pretty good deals from them after the holidays and I usually get a few for Christmas every year. Some of their tank top tee shirts and long sleeve pull over cotton shirts are among my most worn shirts also.

Pretty sure that Codet is made in the USA or Canada, certainly fairly priced, and the quality is favorably reviewed.

The problem that I have is one of pattern matching on the pockets...I expect it, and Codet does not do it....that justifies a lower price from where I sit.

Check out Wrangler, Levi's, Carhartt, Cabela's brand and Great Northern.

I have a green Flannel shirt from Great Northern that I got 3 years ago and it's still going strong. 100% cotton and made in Indonesia. It's one of my all time favorite long sleeved shirts. Got mine at a Smiths Marketplace.

Tack and feed supply stores normally have a good selection of Flannel and Canvans shirts. C-A-L Ranch and I.F.A. are to such stores in my area. Sportsmans Warehouse has a nice selection also.

This is what I was going to suggest as well. I'd like to try their heavyweight version next.

I know this won't fit your description of inexpensive, but in my lengthy experience of buying and wearing flannel shirts... this one is by far the BEST. Filson Alaskan Guide shirt. www.filson.com

I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for their assistance. It looks like I need to reconsider my pricepoint. My prior experience with Flannel has me biased towards a short lifespan so, I'm initially shopping cheap. If an expensive flannel shirt lasts longer, I'm willing to pay more for quality and comfort.

you might also look at the flannel lined canvas shirts like the Schmidt brand they sell at TSC - the canvas is wind and tear resistant, lining makes it warm. Can be had under $20, especially at the end of season clearance sales.

I have 2 Pendleton shirts that are both 20+ years old. I also inherited 4 from my dad when he passed away - probably 35+ years old. Mine really do look new, the ones that were my dads look dated, but not really worn. I don't wear them every day, but when temps drop below 20(like right now!), they get a pretty good workout. Some folks don't like the feel of a wool shirt - i usually layer mine with a long sleeve lightweight turtleneck or long sleeve t. I would buy some more, but figure i would be wasting my money as I can't wear the ones I have out. Don't let your wife run them thru the washing machine - they shrink down to to a XXXXsmall!
