Does anyone know any knife shops in New York City that sells real knives? The only one I know is Paragon Sports and they dont seem to believe in fixed blades. They have hundreds of knife and only about ten fixed blades if that.

I'd suggest you try the archives here but they may have gone missing in the crash.

Unfortunately NY City isn't a great knife town. Iceberg Army Navy on Broadway used to carry a lot of recognizable names but was busted and I haven't been in there lately to check them out. The other A/N stores like Mahoney and Weiss and Kaufmann's always had a mixed bag at best, usually no-name stuff, and the one or two stores that used to be in Times Square have been Disney-ed out of existence.

I'm sure you'll get the most current info here--I recall there was one or two places mentioned that carried some Benchmade and Spydercos.

There's a custom show coming up in November, in mid town, and a few good places in NJ(Harry's, Ray's, Ramsey Outdoor) and on the Island depending on how far you want to travel. JT's store in Port Jervis is great, but that's a way off, and if you go there you might want to hike out to the new Cabela's in Hamburg PA,great selection but at that point I'd guess it's 100 miles from the city....

Drive out to Seaford on Long Island and visit the Bladesman and visit TnT Gunnery. Mostly production, but a varied lot of knives. But not a lot of fixed blades either.

There are some high end folders, but I never found a good collection of fixed blades in one place. Some are scattered around: for example, Berretta, Holland and Holland sometimes have one or two. Paragon has some, at retail plus 25%

Hunter Sports opened recently on Sunrise Highway in Seaford or Massapequa (right where those towns abut), and the store has a knife selection worth checking out. I remember seeing Buck, Spyderco, Lone Wolf, and other brands. Plus, the guys there say they will order for you anything you want that they don't have in stock.

I'm from Brooklyn and although I visit Paragon when I'm in the neighborhood I can't think of a knife that I've bought from then. Come to think of it the only knives I've bought in NYC has been at one of the knife shows.

I'm probably going to be asking about good knife shops in Houston in a few months. ;)

I'm about 90 miles N of NYC and get down there often. There's no knife store I can think of, or I'd have visited (forget Paragon with their prices). I've found pretty much the same thing all the way up to where I am. Great recommendation above about the show in NYC during November. There's another in March I think. With the exception of the Dozier I purchased at last year's November show, I don't have one knife in my collection I purchased in New York.

Anyone in the New Jersey area is very welcome to keep in touch with us at the NJKCA. We meet on the third Sunday of each month and even if there isn't much for sale, you get to handle a lot of great knives and talk to knife knuts face to face.

There's no dues or entrance fees, just friends getting together. If you like, you can stay after show and tell and have lunch, too -- we meet in a restaurant! :)

Just click on the URL in my signature link!

How is the Holland and Holland gallery? Do they allow you to look at their fine firearms? Not expecting to handle a $120,000 double rifle, but it would be nice to see one through the glass :)

I can vouch for Ramsey Outdoor in Paramus, their selection is good. I saw someone there flicking an Axis lock a few weeks ago. Anyone here? :) Ray's Sport Shop in South Plainfield also has a good selection.

Another place that used to have a decent selection was Paragon , I don't know if they still do .

The best knife shop I've been to in the area is a place in Conneticut,I'll have to see if I can remember the name.It had big names customs etc.Mucho folder and fixed.Randalls at around or little over catalog prices etc.Maybe someone will know what store I'm talkig about. an exit off RTE 84 not to far from there.Maybe someone living there will know what store I'm talkin about if I can't recall name/town.In any case it is worth the trip.

Tombstone, any further info on a shop in CT would be appreciated. I know one of the Swiss Army companies is headquartered there and has a nice display area but no retail on the spot that I saw.

I also forgot to mention that there's a Swiss Army Brand store in Manhattan, the sort of flagship store that has *everything*--knives, luggage, etc.-- elegantly displayed but of course at list price. It was just off Broadway and near NYU.

Perhaps someone can help me out with this one, too: wasn't there an old style army navy store on western Canal street, past Broadway but not as far as the Holland Tunnel? One of my favorite A/N places was on Northern Blvd just as you came off the overpass into Flushing, and it seems to be gone, too, along with a great one in Linden NJ on Route One. Guess they may be a vanishing breed.

Way off the NYC path, there is a retail cutlery store outside of Rochester NY,maybe 15 minutes from the airport, but just my luck I showed up when they were closed. Also sadly gone are independent retail stores in Brick NJ(maybe since like 2001 but they advertised in Blade at one time) and one on the outskirts of Buffalo NY that closed maybe a year ago. NY state has a long heritage in cutlery manufacturing--do any of the remaining manufacturers have outlets?

On this beat there is a great store outside of Lancaster PA, in the easy to remember town of Intercourse, Country Knives. A bit closer is Fred Eisen, a leather works place in New Hope PA, just across the river from NJ, that has some custom and high end stuff.(I'm thinking they had Boye knives but I may be wrong here)

Okay,I remember the gun/knife store is in Meriden,CT.I'm trying to remember name of store,c'mon CT guys gals help me here.

Bingo,Just checked a very old thread I posted in about knife shops.I know they had a website a couple years ago too.

Dealer Name: Cubetas Field & Stream
Address: 157 Meriden Road
City: Middlefield
State: CT
ZipCode: 06455
Phone: (860) 347-4353

Another place you really must check for the eye candy is Eurochasse on Greenwich Ave in Greenwich, CT (25 miles north of NYC).

They have the second BEST selection of factory and customs after Cubetas.
A little more high end but well worth it.
